I cosigned a car with my GF but now we are broken up. We are still financing the car. How do I remove her name from the title?

If she's still financing the car with you, you can't. You would need to get the loan refinanced in your name alone, then she'd be off the title.

In the first place it was very stupid to put her name on the title, but I guess you have figured that out.
Call the Motor Vehicle Dep't in your state and ask as laws vary from state to state. You want to remove her name from the title AND also the loan or just from the title ? Whose name is the loan in, if you cosigned the note the loan is in her name and if she defaults you could be held responsible for the balance. Then again if you want the car in your name you most likely will have to get a new loan in your name and pay off the existing note.

Well, if the car is being financed, you don't have the title. The only way would be to pay the finance company for the car loan and then have her sign the title.

If you are just the co-signer, you would have to "buy" the car from your girl friend. Your girl friend can not sign the car over to you until the the lean holder, the fiance company or bank, has been satisfied. That means you would have to get a loan by yourself, pay off the lean holder, then register and title the car in your name.

If it's listed on the title as John Doe (AND) Jill Smith, you can't without her signature.

If its' listed on the title as John Doe (OR) Jill Smith, you can without her signature.
