I believe they were built inside out but not the way the French are saying. That theory at first seems kind of complicated. More complicated than it needed to be. I think they were built in three phases, each phase of construction covering the previous one. From a central core to a larger stepped pyramid, and then the final layer that we can see today that originally was finished with a comparatively thin smooth layer of limestone. It only seems likely to me that it would have been easier to start small and build larger and larger. It seems logical to me.
