I don't know about you but this time of year, when it's almost April I can't wait for the striped bass to starting showing up. I live in Rhode Island and my boyfriend and I would like to go camping on Easter weekend somewhre where we can catch some fish. We are willing to drive a good distance, maybe as far south as Virginia. So my question is anyone in the areas south of RI catching any stripers, that don't have to even be keepers yet I am just dying to catch some fish. Also any campgrounds near said fishing spots?

Your best bet would be to stay near Rhode Island. A few stripers are in Little Neck Bay, NY, but they are still arriving. Action should get better in another week. Reason they come inside LIttle Neck Bay is because the water is really shallow there, a lot shallower than any other area of the Long Island Sound. If you want to catch cows, however, your best bet outside of Rhode Island is the Hudson River around Kingston and north of Kingston. Yet bass fishing gets really good there in early May when the cows head south into the New York Bight.

Ocean going stripers run up rivers. that's the time to get them, in the time of the migration. Lake sure stripers carry jointly around ledges and the place bait fish college. locate those spots, positioned a bait fish on the line and solid into the deep water. that's the secret to catching stripers.
