There are many components that work together in the engine to maintain optimal engine performance and economy.
A service engine soon, or check engine light indicates that there is a sensor that is reading a condition that is "out of range".
Simply resetting the light does not solve the initial cause of the problem.
Replacing a number of parts trying to troubleshoot the problem in the hopes of getting the light to stay off is a tremendous waste of time and money.
The simplest, and most economical way to alleviate your issue, is to have the computer codes checked by a reputable shop to determine what caused the computer to signal you to begin with.
That being said, if per-chance you feel the need to reset the light in the hopes that it was a "glitch" of some kind, you could disconnect the negative battery terminal for a couple of minutes to clear the check engine light.

You could disconnect the battery to reset the light. I have seen some windstars take up to 3 hours to reset that way. You will also loose your radio and clock memory etc. You could take it to a shop and have them manually reset it. If it comes back on, like I think it will, then you need to have to checked out. Those vehicles are known for having 02 sensor issues. I have also seen it go on from a bad gas cap. Many auto parts stores will scan it at no charge and tell you what codes it is producing. Autozone in NY area is one such store. This way at least, before you turn it off, you will have some idea what caused it in the first place.

The light may be on for several hundred reason, tune up does not cover all. Sometimes, if you unhook the battery for 1/2 hour an then hook it back up the codes will clear the compitor and the light will go off. Otherwise, the dealer or repair shop will have to plug into the onboard diagnostics to see what code has the light on and clear it.

the sunshine on my ninety seven Escort LS has been on for a pair of years now I easily have had it serviced approximately 8 circumstances and it comes good back on?? there's a remember for the air luggage on our kind i replaced into advised that this replaced into the issue, however the ford company right here in no way has the area mandatory to repair it. See in the experience that your motor vehicle has had the remember fixed.

It sounds like you need to take it to the dealership to have it done, I not sure what year they started doing it but they made it so that after every tune up or oil change and that the computer chip in the car needs to be updated and the only way to do that is with a piece of equipment that plugs into your lighter.
