I think that just as many 'christians' commit crimes as nonchristians... but you have to realize too that many people who call themselves 'christians' are just church attenders and havent accepted Jesus as their savior and built a relationship with Him daily. they claim Christ but only cuz they were raised with 'religion' ... Jesus was crucified by the 'religious' zealots...

We all fall into sin, whether we are saved or not.... whether we are Christian or not... because we are human and sometimes the ways of the world take over our human nature and we stumble in our walk with Jesus

if any christian claims to be 'better or smarter or wiser' than non christians.. then they are prideful which is a sin in itself... we are all equal and all fall short of the Glory of God

Well, it would be nice if only non-believers committed crimes but of course christians are people too and can commit crimes. The book of Revelation goes into detail of how some ( five, I believe) of the seven churches that were Asia had fallen away from Christ in various ways. The big thing for a believer is to repent. Go and sin no more. It would be nice if once we believed in Christ that all of our internal flaws would just magically disappear but the truth is that anyone dealing with issues that have built up over time will take time to overcome them. Note that the book of Revelation also goes into detail on what the overcomers will receive!
I got to spend some time in jail myself. I wouldn't recommend it but I gained a whole new perspective on my life and my christianity. I should also point out that the apostle Paul got to spend some time in jail himself. Of course, all he was doing was trying to tell others about Jesus. My reason for being in jail wasn't quite so noble.

Ack! Sorry I found this question a little late! Sorry about that.

It's an interesting question! I thought about it for a while, not because the answer was difficult, but because it's difficult to explain. I think that fundamentalist believers in a god (be it Islam or Christianity) operate from a different set of morals than say, Atheists. All their lives they have been taught that god is watching them, they must "do right" and when they do wrong they must attone. This is fundamentally a different reason for being moral than atheists have - which is to do right because it is right, in and of itself.

And I think we can agree that to "do right" because a Sky Being is going to smack you around if you do wrong, is a poorer morality than doing right because it's right. SO since their morality is caught up in the Sky Daddy concept, and not in the actions itself, it's easier to justify immoral acts. They whole "Dad might not be looking," or "I deserve this and I really need it" or "I can ask forgiveness later! Christians aren't perfect!" thing.

In addition, since Atheists don't believe in heaven, this is the only chance we get. They're more motivated to not make a mess of this life.

Why do you thing there are more christians in jail?

This type of mentality caused the National Councel to outlaw religion. The carniage was so horrible (The Riegn of Terror) that parliament reinstituted God in France.

True, there are autracities committed by some who profess Christianity, but the Bible says: He who says he knows Him and does not keep His commandments is a liar and the truth is not in him" (1 John 2:4).

You see, not everyone who says "lord, lord" will enter the Kingdom, says Jesus (Matthew 7:21).

We should be concerned if the Bible did not tell us in advance that these things would be so, In fact, the Bible predicted and desplayed the identity of what it calls: The Abomination of Deslolation. Read those predictions online at www.revelado.org/revealed.htm

I never said that all people who commit crimes are not christians. Actually I know a person who is a christian and is spending time in jail for the crime- He knows what he did was wrong, and realizes he must pay the consequences.

Dude, we are not perfect. If we were perfect, than Jesus wouldn't have to come to this world. Are you perfect? Have you ever cursed, think about bad thoughts? You see, we are all human. The only thing that we can all do is try to be better by respecting others and practice what Jesus told us to do. It's true that many Christians have done bad things, but I know that me and other Christians are trying to become a better people. Wouldn't you want to become a better person?

Christians can make mistakes, and pretty much most of them will all of their lives, it is our sin nature that tempts us to do so. I have not met one Christian who has not sinned after being saved, but it is the fact that if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins. Still even when forgiven, we have the laws of men to abide by and there are consequences for the actions we do. Also another thing is that many people that end up in jail convert to Christianity while in jail, they are esentially Christians in jail that converted while in jail, but it is true, there are Christians that commit crimes. As a Christian, I certainly do not claim to be perfect, nor do I claim that my life is wonderful. Christ himself told us in John 16: 33 " in the world you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." As Christians, we still deal with sins and with the temptations of the world in a daily basis, but Jesus helps us overcome those temptations and sins. Sometimes we fall, but as a proverb tells us, the wise man falleth seven times, but stands up again. No matter how many times we fall short, we can stand up again and try to do better, although we must face and accept the consequences for our actions.

Christian here: I would never say nonbelievers ONLY committ crimes.

.....Crime is the fruit of letting tempation and sin become more dominant than wanting to do want God will.

....I have committed crimes....that means I just stumble like everyone else.....it does not mean that I can't be SAVED by the Blood of Christ.

Remember, Jesus hung out with those who did crimes....Why? ....becuase he Loved them just as much. If they were sooo good at committing crimes.....They would be that much more apt to become great Warriors for Christ!!

good question

Do realize that people most of the time FIND God while they are in jail.

By and large crimes are committed by unbelievers because they have no respoect of the law. The Bible teaches to have respect for not only Gods law, but the law of the land.

No, we are ALL sinners. The only difference between a non believer and a believer is that we have accepted Christ, confessed our sins and have received forgiveness for our sins. As for people in prison and jails, the majority of them become religious in jail as a way of looking good for the courts. Once out most of them forget about being religious and turn back to a life of crime. Hence it was a falsehood.

Of course not. Christians are Human, just like everybody else. They are filled with human frailties, fears and weaknesses. People commit crimes for many different reasons. When your back is against a wall, and you've really got problems, you have to do something -- even if it's wrong.
