Though the bulk of the pyramids were built of limestone from quarries closer to the site of the pyramids, granite was used to line "special" chambers and corridors, for instance, the King's Chamber in the Great Pyramid.

This granite was quarried in Aswan, which is about a thousand km south Giza, upstream on the Nile river (about 700 km as the crow flies).
