The spiritual purpose of a fast is to give something up for a short time so that you can focus on time with God. It usually involves food, but I have heard of TV fasts and such as well. Something like that would still meet the intent, time with God, which TV can interrupt. You can do a fast for any length of time, one meal, three meals, a portion of a day, a day or a few days. You can also drink water during.
The point is to devote extra time to being with God, praying and meditating. If you do a fast in moderation, why should you have to cover up?

Are you aware of the time that the Disciples tried to cast out a demon but could not? Matt17:14-23. When Jesus said "This kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting"
He was talking about the amount of faith necessary to have the God given ability to cast out the demon. he was not talking about the demon itself. Fasting is denying the flesh, and strengthening the spirit. Fasting, according to the bible, should, be accompanied with prayer seeking more from God than what we have. This increases the amount our faith. Faith is simply believing more and more in God's abilities to become real in our lives. It is not following blindly, it is following with our spiritual eyes becoming more and more aware of who and what God is. You may fast any time you wish. If you want to know more e-mail me I am open.

There is not particular or set day a person is suppose to fast. Fasting or never fasting will not determine how spiritual a person is.

Ash Wed. and Good Friday are fast days. You drink liquids. If you have a medical condition you do not have to do it.
Each branch of XC does it somewhat differently.

Lent is not Biblical, and a Christian does not involve themselves with it, nor do we involve ourselves in other religion's rituals, ie; "easter".
If you want to pray and fast, then you can do that on any day of the week, and at anytime you so desire. God will honor it.
