Why not kill two birds with one stone and get her a prep-payment funeral plan? It'll be the death of her ( and yourself ) I suspect .............
Failing that, tell her what a mean stingy to**er you are and both have a laugh ..... but you are joking here, aren't you????????????

Hi,
A lot of hard answers right but i know this one with help you.
First of all if you love her and have enjoyed your life with her then every gift is perfect. When there is love even a have of a candy is appreciated when it is given with love and thats whats counts because after death all you have is the spirit of the things that happened in your life. So if she is happy with the gift for a second then you have done your job as a good husband and she will carry that gift with her for all the eternity.
You both with be a lot happier enjoying those precois moments and knowing the Lord has given you the time to enjoy them.
Give her the best its your wife until she parts.
You will feel good with yourself and that only brings peace.
Celebrate and be happy.
And a Happy Birthday to your wife.
Love Rosy

I'm not sure if this is a joke question but I'll answer it anyway. She's your wife, so forget her age and health and everything and buy her somethng she will like, regardless of your considerations about practicality. If we took that argument to pieces we'd say that it's not worth anyone over 50 buying a new car would we? Heck, Bob, get your wallet out and buy her something nice ..

Give her the best gift of all; the gift of memories. If possible, create a collection of photos and anything else you have that you both hold dear to your hearts. Celebrate her life over again through memories.
But if you're a troll... then buy her a divorce.

Honestly. If she gets the gift, she'll appreciate it. The end. What are you looking for? Support to not buy her anything? 'jeez, would it kill you to get her some flowers or something? I'm sure any token from you would bring tears of joy to her eyes. Stop telling her what she wants. She's a grown woman with her own mind!

do u real want to break her heart that way to save few dollars? to be practical is to watch out the consequences of ur actions. and u should give it to her without her asking. it is so sad that she had to ask u. and we dont give gifts because we want ppl to appreciate it, but because we want to tell the other that we appreciate him/her. even if she doesnt live long, at least u would make her happy for a moment. be generous and dont be cruel

Fat bob.... If your wife is 78 surely you are close to that age as well... I suggest getting her whatever she desires and making the absolute most of the time she has left on earth.

With the tone of the questions you've asked in the past, I'd be very surprised to know you even had a wife, 78 or ortherwise.

You are not being stingy you are asking a totally dumb question. Give me a break..my advice is for her birthday jump off a bridge with two cement blocks tied to your feet. With your attitude...

Give her whatever she wants. If you care about her feelings, it won't matter if it's practical or not. If she's even there for only a few minutes and she has that present to see and know that you knew she wanted it and all, she'll appreciate it and you.
