Cookie Mix in a Jar

1 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 1/2 cups chocolate chips OR butterscotch chips OR peanut butter chips

In a quart-size canning jar, layer ingredients in the order in which they are listed, making sure layers are as level as possible. After adding sugar, pack down firmly with a flat, narrow object; repeat after adding brown sugar.
Center an 8" fabric circle over the lid and secure with a rubber band. Tie a ribbon just under the rubber band to secure fabric, then remove rubber band.
Attach a card with baking instructions and mark with an expiration date of 1 year from date made.

Baking Instructions:
In a large bowl, cream together 1/2 cup softened butter, 2 eggs, and 1 tsp. vanilla extract.
Add the contents of the jar and stir until well mixed.
Drop the dough by teaspoonfuls onto an ungreased baking sheet 2" apart.
Bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for 8 - 10 minutes, until light brown.
Allow to cool on the pan for 2 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
Makes 2 1/2 dozen cookies.

Now this is a pretty basic recipe and you will be able to add any ingredient you want to replace the chocolate chips etc.
You can add coconut, nuts, crushed candy bar, M&m's. You get the idea.
Have fun wtih it.

Layer the dry ingredients in a jar (minus the liquid things). Attach the recipe to the jar and tie a pretty ribbon around the top.
