My stepdaughter, the 2 year old, has an abnormally large stomach, she has to wear size 3T bottoms to fit her waist and 4T tops to cover her belly (and she is on the shorter side of average 2 year olds). Her mother gives her candy all the time, she has the snacks in her pantry at just the right level for a 2 year old and she is allowed to go in there to get something to eat whenever she wants and she is OBSESSED with food. She sits and stares at you when you are preparing a meal, keeps asking when it will be ready and when it is given to her, she shovels so much food in her mouth that she sometimes has to spit it out because she can't chew it and she breathes very heavily through her nose because her mouth is so full. We only have her one day a week and every other wkend so we do what we can when we have her. And we will have her in the summer for 4 weeks and will be taking her to the doctor then but is this normal? And what more can be done NOW?

Your husband needs to step in and demand that she be taken to a doctor sooner! Her health is at serious risk and waiting until Summer is NOT acceptible! He needs to go back to court and demand that he have more time with her and that his EX see a nutritionist.

Yes it is possible for a two year old to have a eating disorder. What you need to do is talk to the mother and see if you can work out some thing where she will only give her child a treat like when she does a choir. Tell her that her child could get obbese or get diabetes maybe this will give the mother some sense and not feed her child junk all the time. Also ite her whenever you get a chance and when she comes encourage good eating habits like NOT stuffing her face so full of food that she has to spit some of it out to swallow it. sot if she does something like that put her in the cornor or give her a (piece) of candy every time she behaves. also like when she watches you cooking have her go play a card game with someone or go play outside get her obssesed with something else LOL. And at dinner or any other meal reduce it do not give her as much as she wants give her portioned food following the food guide lines of a health specailist or the plain old food groups. So that is all i can think of right now i hope this helps.

There are metabolic disorders which cause children to not be able to regulate their appetite. Another problem is the parents' inability to recognize that there might be an issue. This child needs to see a pediatrician ASAP!! You must convince the parents to take her now! She will have lifelong health issues, most probably Type II diabetes, if she is not treated quickly! Hopefully, her appetite is just from the ability to reach unhealthy food at will, but this may be a serious condition. Good luck!

My kids eat when they are bored. When they are active then they forget about food. I try to give my kids fruits and veggies to snack on when they are hungry. Also, give her a lot of water. Our bodies need water and it will help fill her stomach so she wont feel like eating as much.

I would definitely get her to see a nutritionist and do some food planning.

It's called bad eating habits that can turn into child obesity and more serious diabetes.
