I've never liked the oversized drivers but mine is a little small. I have a Taylor Made Burner, (6 years old) that I bought used cuz I figured it would help my slice (which it did). I'd like something a little bigger, maybe 350cc range. I don't like teeing up too high and i want about 9.5 or 10 for loft. Remember-affordable

I understand you're not liking the new 460cc heads, especially if you are coming from using a TaylorMade Burner, which is actually a 10 - 12 year old driver, and very small by today's standards. (TM quit making the original Burner in 1998)

In my personal opinion you would be well served by taking advantage of the huge advances in engineering technology that have occurred in the past decade regarding metalwoods, and TaylorMade has just come out with a new Burner this spring which is amazing... but it's huge... that being said I'll try to answer the question you actually asked.

If you like the Taylormade brand and want to update the technology in your driver without going over 350cc's then you should try to get your hands on the r510 or r540 drivers that came out in 2002. the 510 is an awesome driver, and only 330cc's. I still have one and I take it to the range occasionally, because the feel is just amazing. If you can get your hands on the TP(tour preferred) version then you should do it. I have hit the r540, although I've never owned one, and it's a great club too, coming in right at 350cc's.

I've attached the link to eBay below for r510 TP's, as well as one in particular I think you should check out. I really think you can't go wrong with this driver, and it will be a huge improvement over your current stick, in addition to being very affordable (less than 150$)

hope this helps and happy golfing!

a Taylor Made R540xd sounds like the club for you, right head size and a hot face... a friend of mine played that club and could pound it...I actually bought the R580xd and liked that but moved up and bought a Ping G2, G5, and now Cleveland Hi Bore XL...you should be able to find the above mentioned club for somewhere around 100 to 120 dollars (maybe even less now) at any big golf shop that carries used gear or online (try www.golfclubexchange.com) your absolute best bet would be to go to a golf shop or custom/repair shop and ask to demo a number of different clubs...you can hit them in the cage, then take them out to the course (they will ask you for a credit card number to insure you return them) but that way you will know for sure by hitting them on a course what feels good in your hands...then you can compare what you liked vs. price and make the right decision...good luck!

now a day's, all the drivers are 460 cc's. A good 400 cc driver is the titleist 905 S. It is sort of old so the price has gone down and should be less than $200. I use a Cleveland Launcher 460 and got it for $180. It has been rated the best driver for its price. Very forgiving and straight

I buy almost everything on ebay, and I can tell you that it is the cheapest way to get name brand stuff. But there is also another option as long as you dont care about the name of the club, but rather what it does. These clubs are clones, which are made from the exact same materials and specifications. You can find these clubs at hirekogolf.com which used to be dynacraft golf.

Go to a big golf shop in your neighborhood like Golfsmith--they have great deals on used stuff.
