but in all seriousness, right now, if we lost our independence would you rather lose it to America or Germany.... I must admit I'm swaying heavily toward Germany.

Good question.
Americans (some) on here make me sick with their racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic warmongering attitude.

They can not see past the nose on their face as millions of them don't even own a passport and have never seen the ocean.

They make Hollywood blockbusters which change history making them the "kings of the world".

The southern Bible belt Evangelists frighten me far more than Muslim extremists, and they have control of the white house!!

I would far rather be allied with Germany! Germans are the closest culturally, economically, educationally than any other European nation and America.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to air my views!

No don't listen to them because they are big headed idiots,Britain wouldn't be speaking German right now because Britain saved it's own *** in the Battle of Britain and Britain would of won the war eventually with it's Allies who were there throughout the entire war.

Actually, When American use this term. It's meant for the French not the British. Your more than welcome to use the same phrase
in regards to the French. and also It sounds kind of cornie to say if it wasn't for America, British, Russia and what ever other countries that were on our side we'd all be talking German. That just don't sound right. It is just lacking something when you say it this way. Again, The Brit's are more than welcome to say the same thing. In fact, you guy's held up the German's long enough for the US. to help you out. No other country could do that. Now let's focus on keeping from talking Chinese or Arabic. I personally think the Brit's are a bunch of hard nose toughasses. That's why I like you all. Again, America is in a sense an extension of England.

Britain was doing very well without the Americans in both World Wars and as a matter of fact the British saved the Americans in loads of battles so if anything Britain saved the Americans ***.

Americans history books are written in such a way that they make it look like America is the best which obviously isn't true and if you disagree with them then they class you as Anti American.

We Americans could have easily concentrated our efforts on the defeat of Japan and not put ourselves into the European theater.
Our ships fed England, we gave the USSR equiptment, etc., etc..
I don't like hearing the "we won the war for you" statements people make. We fought with you, beside you. We rationed our food and materials to share with you, not like someone would give to a vagrant, but like a brother should share with a brother.
The Germany, Italy and Japan of today are not those of the past. We all felt for the little guy and went forward to rebuild them, in hopes that they, the people, would not make the mistake of letting any more Hitlers, Tojo's or Musilini's into power again.
Our parents and grandparents won that war. But we need to remember and learn from them. Ultimitly, if we don't, the war will be lost by us.
Look at the faces of all those men and women, young men who never made it home alive. See in them yourself, dreams and hopes of lives that never made it.
I looked today at those brit's held in Iran and I can see my sons and daughters. I say a prayer for them and their families, just like my parents and grandparents did for the brave Brit's, French, Russians, Philipino's, Chinese and yes, even the German, Japanese and Italians. People caught in events beyond their control.
I am tired of the bickering. "We" didn't win or lose anything, except the chance to be proud of the full measure those before us gave so that we could be born and live.

America doesn't want to take your independence.

But if you feel that becoming a German state is whats best for your country - then I suggest you actively work toward that goal.

Personally I think you would be better of being the 51st state. But whatever, this is all hypothetical nonsense.

Um todays Germany or 1940's Germany? I personally Hate when My good Fellow Citizens say that as it was only partially true. The American forces would have been wiped out in a few hours if Churchill did not recommend going for Africa first untill we were battle trained. The Original American Plan was a Smaller D'Day event in 1942. It would have been a slaughter and destroyed most of the US forces. It was a great effort By all the Allies. Although if Germany had not attacked Russia we would never have gotten off the New Jersey coast to save you.

Oh and How fast will those German Pansies be at getting out your 15 Sailors? Any Help at all? Hmmmm I guess the USA will Offer as we are best of friends, You may go if that is how you feel.

Germany. The USA only joined WW 2 when Japan bombed Pearl Harbour. If this hadn't happened they would have stayed out of it as they did for the first two years of the war. The USA always acts to protect its own interests.

Totally untrue re the 'talking German' comment! During WW2, when the Germans invaded European countries, they did _not_ insist that the occupied nations spoke or learned German. It's another one of those quaint American myths! Even more importantly (since they are referring to helping out in WW2), had the Americans hinted that they would intervene earlier in the war, instead of waiting 2 1/2 years, then Hitler (according to Albert Speer the industrialist in charge of German war production), would not have been so ambitious. Thus WW2 would have been considerably shortened.

As to which nation we might beneficially surrender our independence then I think I'd go for Germany... excellent transport, health and education systems, long cultural history, Anglo Saxon links, etc.. Most of my close relatives are American and they are not as contented with life as you might think - they worry about losing medical cover, endure ridiculously long working hours, have a mere two weeks vacation per year on average, fear being shot now that more states are allowing the carrying of concealed weapons, have an economy that is currently a bit flaky, and so on. So why go the American way?!

Mucky, you have to think about context.

If you mean the German government of today, stable democracy, good economy, in the heart of Europe then I think you're right ...

But you should specify that you mean the government of today rather than the Nazi government of the 1940's.

Regarding that time, I'd say although it pisses me off when Americans say things like that, I am very grateful for their help in that war - Churchill himself said that when he heard about Pearl Harbour he 'wept tears of joy, for I knew we had won the war' ...

... and without them (and Lend Lease), I am sad to say that we probably would be speaking German as our second language or even our first language.

So many good questions today Mucky, you're obviously intelligent as well as pretty :)
