According to the Bible, some sins carry greater penalties. But all sin is to be avoided.

a sin is a sin is a sin.
there is an apple, a pineapple and an orange. they are different but they are all fruits.

humans place standards on sins, but to god they are all the same. who said that swearing isn't as bad as killing? we do, humans that is we have no other basis on whats worse other than others saying it. yes lying can send you to hell just as quick as murdering. but but but that's the whole point! god saves all sins, because we are humans and sinful creatures we are all doomed for hell. the only and i repeat the only way to not go is through jesus christ. whoever said that being a good person will get you to heaven obviously hasnt' read thier bible. read the old testament. yes god is good and just and knows our thoughts and our everybeing. but he is a jealous god and when ther is a point that is repeated over and over in the bible it is that good deeds will not keep you from hell or send you to heaven. the only way is though jesus. homeboy is not playing around.

Yes, in God's eyes all sin is wrong, because all sin is a violation of God's will. As someone has said, whenever we sin, we are shaking our fists in the face of God.

From a human standpoint, however, some sins are certainly worse than others, because of the harm they do. This is why under the Old Testament law some sins (like murder or stealing) were judged more severely than other sins.

At the same time, the Bible doesn't spotlight one sin as being the worst in God's eyes. God is absolutely pure and holy, and even the littlest sin is still evil in His sight. The Bible says, "To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech" (Proverbs 8:13). The Bible also says, "'Do not plot evil against your neighbor, and do not love to swear falsely. I hate all this,' declares the Lord" (Zechariah 8:17).

The Bible does, however, say that one sin—and only one—is unforgivable. That is the sin of turning away from God and refusing the forgiveness and salvation He offers us in Jesus Christ. But God loves us and He wants to forgive us and welcome us into His family forever. Have you accepted the gift of salvation He offers us in His Son, Jesus Christ?

To God, sin is sin is sin forever and ever amen. It doesn't matter whether you smart off to your parents or murder the President. It's still sin. The punishement and repentence is the same.

I was unaware that believers in sin still considered lying to be a sin. Lying is the main activity of believers here on R&S, after all (though you folks here seem to have avoided it - congratulations).

Even if all other sins are equal, telemarketing is worse. If I were to become a believer again, it would be because I want to watch from heaven as telemarketers writh in agony in the special acid bath in the middle of the lake of fire.

We have all sinned and fallen short of God's standard.
We are born with a sinful nature, and so it is natural for us to sin. A child does not have to be taught to do wrong.

God does not grade sin, but we are all sinners.
He made a way for the sin of all mankind when He sent His Son Jesus Christ to die in our place. He died that we might be forgiven, but each person needs to respond to that.
By asking personally to be forgiven, repenting from sin, and allowing God to be the leader of our lives.

I think in Christianity all sins are the same.

In Islam and Judaism sins are of different levels.

In Hinduism and Buddhism, there's no such thing as a sin per se, just forbidden actions reuslting karma.

Biblically - no. So you can hit your thumbs with a hammer (maybe while helping building a hospital) and say "oh ****", and you are treated the same as someone who goes on a murdering spree with stolen weapons, fueled by drugs.

Hurrah for biblical logic.

In reality, there are different levels of misdeeds people do.

When Jesus Christ died on the cross, he paid for every sin that was ever or will ever be committed. The only thing that separates us from Him is unbelief. All sins are equal in God's eyes because his Son paid for them all. There is no such thing as a "mortal sin". It's nowhere in my Bible. However there is reaping and sowing in this life.

of course :) God loves us all so it would make sense that say..if you tell a few lies here and there, you won't go to to hell! Maybe if you murdered someone or some sin that was terrible you'd go to a bad place. Everyone makes mistakes and I think that almost everyone will go to heaven if overall you are a good person :)
