Well that all depends, did you or your friend do anything before hand?

Shop Assistants are normally only rude if there is a valid reason as their job depends on it.

If you both did nothing to warrant the rudeness you can report the incident to the Store's Head Office.

Vote with your feet, don't go back. Tell all your mates not to go there too. you could try writing to the manager or owner, but honestly, if no action was taken when you complained, it's probably not the sort of place you wan't to spend money in anyway.
I bought something in a very well known chain store who are always on the telly; I handed the assistant a 20; she did not look at me - did not speak to me, did not tell me how much the item was; just held her hand out for money, and kept talking to her mate all the time. She took my money without looking at it, I waited for my change....which was a tenner, and it didn't come. I said" I gave you a twenty"
She said "you didn't"
I said "how would you know, you did not acknowledge my existence in any way?"
I made her call a manager., who initially refused to "cash up "the till; told me to come back tomorrow!!
"No way" says I.
Then the till was "cashed up", found to be a tenner over, and the manager says, well," as there seems to be a discrepancy, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt"
EH?
At this, I let rip; told the manager about the girl continuing to chat to her mate while not even seeing the money I handed her. the manager became a bit flustered, and said she would deal with it, took the girl off the floor.

Just don't go back.

Yes, the assistant was probably rude because she has no manners and because her boss is probably just as bad, clearly she hasn't been trained properly. Such people are too thick to realise that without customers they have no job. I notice that, in airports for example, if you make a justified complaint and want some remedial action taken, they will threaten to call security. It is as though customers are never right. Yes, I know that customers can also be rude, but you want their business.

If it was a chain you can complain to the head office.

The best way to deal with these types is to smile sweetly and be over polite to them. Remember she has no right to look down on you and she can only wear the clothes from the shop because she gets a staff discount.

Shop elsewhere and make sure you tell people about it.

Nothing. Let it go. If you did not get what you needed at the shop, then you should complain to the district manager, if you just want her to be punished, you may just need to shop somewhere else. You can't force the manager to reprimand or fire employees. It's not worth wasting your energy on.

Call the manager or write an email/ letter and explain exactly what happened and complain to the manager. OR if it is a chain store type place look up the corporate office and complain to them.

You have several choices, you could not patronize this establishment ever again. Or you could assume she was having a bad day, and hope she doesn't ever provide this service to you again. You really don't know if the clerk was reprimanded or not. Certainly they would not do it in front of patrons. It may be an issue in her next review. God bless****

I understand both sides to the argument. There are nasty assistants but also nasty customers. Being an assistant myself, I can sympathise, but putting up with ranting & moaning all day long isn't nice either. Before now I've been sexually assaulted by a customer (when I was told to be friendly ), he took my friendliness wrong, & hit by a woman over reduced teddy bears. It's made me very nervous of crowds of customers, now. But still, we must pretend to be nice. xxx

I've been to places that treated me poorly, even when I did nothing wrong. I was discriminated because of my appearance. I called the owner and explained to him that I will not be back, unless he repremands his employee. The owner was kind to me, and said he would make sure this person doesn't do it again. I did not scream at the owner, I acted very civil. I also was a regular at the establishment. As for other places, I would not return, someone else will be happy to be polite to me.

If it's a major chain, write a letter expressing your feelings about the treatment you received. Otherwise, if your letter falls on deaf ears, I'd not patronize the shop and tell your friends to avoid going there too. that should cut down on their business. They need to realize. the customer always comes first..
