The tattoo is about 3"inches and is above my ankle I basically can't quit scratching the scabbs and it just gets worse what should I do? I mean it's a real bad habbit I have of picking at it. I've had it probably a year now. If and when I get it healed up the tattoo will be ruined and I don't want to go over it again because I'd be afraid of doing it again. I have no plans of getting any more tattoos I have 2 and that's it. The other is on my back I guess I should have put it there because at least I can't scratch back there. What should I do?

Well first thing your tattoo should have been healed within the first 2-3 weeks of getting it. It could be a couple of different things but I can't see it. What I would suggest is to use a really good lotion like Vasaline Intesive Care. No scents in the lotion! And do NOT cover your tattoo. That is the main thing on getting a tattoo. Your tattoo can't be covered with a sock. This causes the tattoo to suffocate and the healing time takes longer. Have you called your tattoo artist to have him/her look at it? Well my suggestion would be to use the lotion for about 2 weeks. Not alot just a thin layer of lotion about 3-4 times a day when it starts to feel tight and itchy. Do not itch your tattoo. This will cause scarring. Instead of itching just try lite rubbing, like when you put the lotion on. If this dosn't work, I would suggest to go to the doctors. You could possibly have a mild staph infection. Does your tattoo have any little redish dots or pimples around it? If so go to your doctors office right away. If not, then you don't have a staph infection. Another thing is you could be having an allergic reaction to the ink that they used. Try the lotion and if that doesn't work go to your doctors. But like I said this tattoo should have been healed 2-3 weeks after getting it.
I hoped this helped and good luck.

EEK....your tattoo should have healed within a couple of weeks. I think the scratching is what's making it worse. If it's open and appears infected, get some anti-bacterial cream for it. If it's just dry and scabby, try using some anti-itch cream or calamine lotion.
Good luck, and STOP SCRATCHING!!!!!

Let your body heal, because the more you scratch, the more you risk infection. Sit on your hands.

You can use vaseline intensive care lotion or a and d ointment. That's really good for tattoos and dry skin.My tattoo artist suggested the vaseline intensive care.

Buy anti-itch cream, or apply vitamin E cream on it. Or wash it with warm water.i always do that when my tattoo is itchy. It will ease the itch.

you should use a moisturizer & cover it for a while, so you're not tempted to scratch it. its probably really dry. u might also want 2 go 2 the doc, cuz it could be infected. hope it gets better!

if you want the scabs off, you can soak them in warm water...but if you've picked at it that long, the color is probably faded and ruined!

Does it itch? Seriously. Are you putting anything on it? Are there colors? I need more information.
