Just like Mac&Cheese everybody has their own methods. Here's the proven way. When boiling an egg, leave the egg at room temperature for about 30 minutes before cooking. An egg that is extremely cold will break when placed into boiling water. Water, one Tb. vinegar, Boil 10mins, rest 10mins, cool and you're ready for your next process

Ah, I love hard-boiled egg Questions.
Use a pot that's large enough to accomodate all the eggs you're going to cook. They can be touching each other in the pot, but make sure the eggs don't "stack up" on top of each other too much. They'll crack under their own weight.
Add water to the pot, enough to cover the eggs by about 1 inch (the pot doesn't have to be completely full), and add about 1 teaspoon of white vinegar to the water. Over medium-high heat, bring the water to a rolling boil...don't turn up the heat all the way, because the sudden temperature change can crack the eggs.
As soon as the water is fully boiling, put a tight-fitting lid on the pot, and remove it from the heat. If you use an electric stovetop, the coils will still retain heat after the stove is turned off, so remove the pot from the stovetop. Let the eggs cook, undisturbed, for exactly eighteen minutes.
After 18 minutes, run cold water into the pot, allowing the fresh water to "flush out" the cooking water. Let the fresh water run over the eggs for about three minutes.
At this point, if you were going to peel the eggs right away, you would put them into a large bowl of icewater. But since you're going to color them, just remove them from the water bath, blot them dry, and store them in their original egg carton, in the fridge.
It's probably too late for this, but when your'e hard-boiling eggs, it's best to use eggs that are NOT too fresh. After 1 to 2 weeks, some of the moisture inside the eggs evaporates, and the white shrinks away from the inside of the shell, so the eggs are much easier to peel. If you're going to make hard-boiled eggs on the 31st of the month, for example, it's best to use eggs that you bought in the middle of the month.

Place eggs in cold water and bring to a soft boil. A soft boil is when bubbles start to form on the bottom of the pot. Cook for 10 minutes, then place pot in the sink (don't drain) and turn the cold water on so that it slowly cools the eggs down.

Get a really deep dish and fill with water until the eggs are completly surmeged. Then cook on high for 3-5 minutes and then allow water to stand until warm, run cool water over the eggs and then lift out. Good luck.

Once the water is boiling, use a spoon to gently lower the eggs to the bottom of the pot and roll the spoon to lay the eggs at the bottom of the pot. This will keep them from cracking from the drop. Otherwise, boiling an egg is boiling an egg.

Start cooking your eggs in cold water and when boiling, let them cook at least for 4 more minutes.
Cool in cold water...
It's all!
PS: At the same time you will see that the yolk will be perfectly centered.

put the eggs in the pot when the water is still cool, turn on to med-high heat, cook at a rolling boil for 10 miutes, then turn off heat, cover pot with lid, and leave for 10 minutes, then put the pot in the sink and add only a little cold water at a time, you don't want to weaken the shell by flashing it into icey cold water straight from hot water

Make sure to start them in COLD water. Add a pinch of salt. This also keeps them from cracking. Boil 10 minutes (from the time they start boiling). Remove from heat, place pan in the sink and run cold water over them until cool.

place eggs in pan (gently). cover with cold water. bring to boil. TURN OFF HEAT, cover pan and let eggs sit for 20 minutes. I've been making eggs this way for 20 years. It is totally idiot-proof.
