I have already raised my daughter, she took to potty training no problem, and was using the toilet regularly since 2 1/12 years old. My son on the other hand is almost 3 1/2 and still uses his diaper/pull up. His doctor said to switch from pull ups back to diapers, but nothing is really helping. Anyone have any tips I can use?

I hear you on that, he's been peeing on the potty for a while now, it's not consistent, but he does it.

just to clear things up, he can pee on the potty. He knows how, I've shown him how already so it's not the issue. I just want him to poop on the potty, he's only tried it and done it once. We gave him an award and everything. We've tried the sticker thing too, no luck!

Make it fun for him to use the toilet. The old cheerio trick works wonders. (Or Fruit Loops if you prefer bright colours.) Giving him something to aim at gets him thinking of it as a fun game.

And since you are also a male, showing him by example is good too.

that is a common problem with boys, i disagree with the doc, get rid of all diapers and pull ups, it will be a scene at first but it will get better by day 3-4 it will be done, i have successfully potty trained my 4 boys and 3 nephews by 1 and a half, they all had the poop scare, the longer you wait the harder it becomes, 3 and a half it's going to be a fight about who's will is stronger, but if you get rid of pull ups and diapers you have no choice, have him with you when you give them away or throw them out,

I had the same problem with my son. You know wht my mother told me? To not worry! "Have you ever seen someone graduate high school in a diaper?" She asked. She's right. The mroe you worry the harder it is. Let him decide when he's ready.
My son was ready at 2 1/2 for pee training and 4 for pooping.
They're only young once!

I share your frustration....my 3 1/2 year old daughter won't poop on the potty!!! its driving me nuts! as a matter of fact, I just went and bought her a 'big girl bike' and told her that when she starts pooping on the potty like a big girl we will put it together for her....I hope it works...otherwise, I guess she graduate college in Pull-Ups!!! LOL

My son is 2 1/2, and he has used the potty, but not all the time. I finally got him to use it for the first time by getting him stickers of his favorite character....Elmo, and I let him put one sticker on his potty chair for everytime he has used it.

My son is the same age and you have had more progress then me. Don't sweat it and he will get it in his own time.
