Except for Ehud Olmert, EVERYONE is Israel realizes they lost.
The two objectives were to rescue the two IDF members kidnapped illegally and to crush Hezbollah's ability to rain Katyusha's on Israelis civilians. Hezbollah successfully fired over 1,200, and the soldiers are still being held.
Amazingly, Israel has to debate "normal" relations with Arab nations, yet these same nations refuse to assist in getting the soldiers safe return.
Hezbollah wasn't crushed.
Initially, the House of Saud, Jordan, and Egypt ALL criticized Hezbollah's actions. Of course, they only did this because the madman in Tehran and Syrian optometrist control Hezbollah and they want to counteract Ahminejad.
Nasrallah attracts hundreds of thousands for rallies, Olmert is loathed along with his Defense Minister Peretz.
They both MUST go, and I hope Israel is smart enough to bring back the great, and uncowardly Bibi Netanyahu.
Great question.

I think Hezbollah did and here is why: For the 1st time in Israel war history Israel was forced to fight a war on its soil where more than 300,000 Israeli were forced to move out of their homes for weeks. 15000 Hezbollah fighters were able to stand strong in front of a 100,000 Israeli full equipped army.
The war proved that next war with a major Arab army could be disastrous conclusion for Israelis. Israeli military power is a myth and the USA could not count on the Israeli army in the Middle East.

Israel did not accomplish its goals, free the two soldiers and destroy hezbollah. In fact they made hezbollah stronger. Hezbollah did not accomplish the goals they had before the war, free the prisoners in Israel. I believe hezbollah won and Israel and Lebanon lost.

from the military viewpoint-Israel. From the political viewpoint-Hezbullah. Im not siding with Hezbullah or taking up for them, but they showed they could stand up and battle Israel, thats what they wanted to prove. Just like with Vietnam, just like with Iraq, even if the bigger-more powerful side of a war kills 10 times as many people, the smaller group can still win the war politically.

I think it was about water that Israel wants to control. Hezbollah, is not a terrorist group, they don't leave Lebanon they runs hospitals, news services, and educational facilities and are the main aid and social service provider to the Lebanese in the Shiite areas.

I don't know who won,but definitely not Israel...Their goal was to free the two soldiers and destroy Hezbollah...None was done...Destroying a country and killing 1000 civilians it's not a victory,on the contrary...
