The horn on my 18 year old Volvo just started beeping by it self. I just had the brakes fixed and don't want
to take it back to the shop as that was costly enough. Its a 240 wagon. Also had the back wiper fixed too as it had stopped working. Can I fix the horn myself with limited mechanical knowledge?

I had the same problem with my 480,I never got to the end of it. I just taught it gave the car a personality,, like it's saying hello to ya,,,

don't think it's the horn relay. Probably the horn is grounding internally in the steering column....the "contact ring" which is behind the steering wheel. So you'd have to pull the steering wheel off and see what's up in there...a frayed wire, a busted part, etc. Something is unintentionally grounding the horn circuit....much the same thing happens when you press on the horn button/ring.
The rear wiper could be a fuse, first thing to check.

while most rear wiper repairs involve the replacement of the right side tailgate harness if your shop replaced the column mounted switch they may have created a new problem . i would examine my receipt and probably take the car back to the shop. repairing yourself may involve removing the steering wheel and the upper and lower binnacle covers and this is more than i would advise for an owner w/ few skills in this area

The horn relay is starting to fail, replace it. A good A/P store can help you locate where it is located.
