my issues with religion:
1- the mindless unquestioning of everything the bible says
2- the fact that many people who do hold these strong beliefs do so because they were basically brainwashed as children
3- the fact that many people find god when they are at their lowest point - to me "finding god" simply means you are too weak to handle your own problems and need someone to take the weight off you
4- that people who supposedly cant wait to meet their maker and reap the rewards of the afterlife seem to ,for the most part, take every advantage of modern medicine to keep themselves alive if their health starts to fail - seems a little hypocritical.
i have always been open to belief in god, ghosts, supernatural, ufos, anything.... but i need to see it to believe it... and unfortunately i have never seen any of those things... i wont believe in something just because someone or some book tells me to.. that just not in my nature.
additionally, i know the believers say that all the rotten stuff that happens in the world is because god gave man free will, but it is a little hard to believe in someone/something that would allow for all the misery that does exist on this earth.
thanks for allowing me to offer my opinion.

It's isn't "what makes you believe that something can't be true." The issues is, "What evidence is there for belief?"
Atheists find the articles cited as proof to be lacking, and find that there is nothing in the universe that requires the existence of a divine being(s). Without a reason to believe, the null answer is accepted.
When you see an Atheist talking about disproving some sort of impossibly odd creature (I think the burning porcupine recently passed through these boards), that's the same thing they're talking about. Nobody could possibly disprove it, but nobody should believe that it really exists, either. That's the whole point: the burden of proof always rests for those making a specific claim about the world, theological or otherwise. It is not on the shoulders of those who deny the claim out of a lack of convincing evidence.

I just don't. It's far more natural to not believe in a god than to believe in one. To believe in a god you have to have the idea planted in your head, without it ever being mentioned to anyone, it's likely nobody would believe in a god.
I've also seen no evidence for one, and I don't feel deep down like there could be a god.
It's much like believing in a teacup orbiting between the sun and Mercury. Unless someone mentioned it, it's entirely likely you'd never think of it, and it's completely improbable.

The only real Gods are us. Everything else is doctrine. The biblical God has failed in everything he's supposed to uphold and he plays games with his servants. The concept of him is not real nor logical by nature.
Religion is based on a belief system which has nothing to do with facts and none of the biblical stuff can be traced in history for any referance. If there is any truth in it, it is the fact that it's plagierized from ancient cultures and they changed names of people, events etc. to create a system of mind control and money.

If there is a God then he doesn't believe in me. If he truly loved me then in my quest for finding and understanding who God is, he never gave me any clues to his existence, nor has my life gotten any worse since I'd stopped believing in him.

~~~clmcm,,, Pause for just a moment and ponder this about other religions,,,,EVERY religion's god that YOU deny is real,,, is therefore false. I hold your god to the very same measure and therefore believe in only one less god than you.
