Why do they think your irresponsible? Maybe you could improve that or make it even better than your parent's expectations. Make sure that YOU are taking care of the dog at all times and not your parents. Clean your room along with trying to improve other things. And maybe you could even volunteer at an animal shelter to show your parents that you can take good care of a dog. And when you feel that you've improved everything that you could have, then you could tell your parents that you were doing all that for the puppy.

First of all you do not say how old you are. Next if your parents have to tell you to keep your room clean you are not yet old enough to have a dog. Try doing your chores with out being told for a while. If you show you are responsible you might just get your wish. Remember a dog will be with you for a very long time so be sure you are ready to keep it happy and healthy for all of it's life. That means you need to have money so your parents don't have to pay for every thing. Read every thing you can about what dog would be good for you. go to www.animalplanet.com and see all of the thing you will need for a dog.
Good luck

I recently got a puppy, that being said, we had dogs before, but this is the first time I'm 'old' enough to help with the raising, training, and taking care of. I'm 15. I admit I don't think I would have been ready before round 13. Hercules (the pup) is my full responsibilty, even though he was actually supposed to be my mom's. He's a shih tzu mix, meaning just about daily brushings from me. Before convincing your dad you're ready, convince yourself.
Are you planning on getting a breed that needs lots of grooming? Who would do the grooming? Is it going to be a big dog that needs lots of excersise? Are you going to train it? Puppy school? Who takes care of it while you're at school? Are you just going to go to the pound and get a nice stray? Will you still care for the pup when he's gotten bigger and not so cuddly? Are you ready for all that and doing your homework?

Keeping your room clean has nothing to do with caring for a dog.. But if thats what he wants then do it...
you can also do pet sitting.. People now days are using pet sitters as much as baby sitters!
You can also start a dog walking business.. These are all things you can do to prove to your parents that you CAN be responsible with animals.
alrac042: LMAO do you know how many adults out there who cannot keep their rooms clean? HAHA..hey still make great pet owners;-)

Are you responsible for yourself? Do you make good grades? Come home on time? Do your chores? Keep your room clean? If you answered yes to ALL of these, then you're responsible enough for a puppy. But remember puppies grow up to be dogs. They aren't small and cute forever. You and your dad also need to work out who's going be be responsible for taking the dog for walks and who's going to pay the vet bills. Good luck!

Of course you want a puppy every young person wants a puppy but don't understand how much work it is.....Then the puppy grows up and you couldnt be bothered with it anymore and then its your parents responsibility to look after it or even worse take it to the pound.......I agree with your parents, wait until your old enough and responsible enough to look after a pet properly without needing your parents help

My mom gave me a plant and if I could keep it alive I could get a puppy I kept the plant alive for two years ThenI trained my uncles dogs for three years so he gave me my own jackrussell and i love so you could prove your responsible by taking care of a plant then they should give you a puppy.
