While most religions have a body of beliefs or doctrines, these can often form a very complicated theology, beyond the understanding of the average layperson. Yet the principle of cause and effect applies in every case. The teachings of a religion should influence the personality and the daily conduct of each believer. Thus, each person’s conduct will normally be a reflection, to a greater or lesser degree, of that one’s religious background. What effect does your religion have on you? Does your religion produce a kinder person? More generous, honest, humble, tolerant, and compassionate? These are reasonable questions, for as one great religious teacher, Jesus Christ, stated: “Every good tree produces fine fruit, but every rotten tree produces worthless fruit; a good tree cannot bear worthless fruit, neither can a rotten tree produce fine fruit. Every tree not producing fine fruit gets cut down and thrown into the fire. Really, then, by their fruits you will recognize those men.”—Matthew 7:17-20.

Jesus taught religion before his death, and this started religion. There is many books out there besides the bible that prove the teachings of Christ. Like the Dead Sea Scrolls. in 2000years of these teachings I think religious scholars would of figures out if there was false intentions. Why are you so brained washed with logic. You can not disprove the Bible or Jesus. Logic just looks at all angles or possibilities possible. And if you know what you was talking about your question would of be worded differently. You really expressed your opinion not a question.

Don't mix Islam with Christianity for beginners.

If you are talking about cult religions like 'Heaven's Gate', 'The Davidians' or Jonestown..all those people were misled. Misled by those who thought what they were doing was the lord's work, but in reality if anyone of them truely believed in God's words, they would know that he wouldn't want anyone of them to commit suicide, molest children, have mulitple wives, have one gender and wait on a UFO to come take them to heaven .

Now if you're talking about mainstream religions, the whole basis for every religion is FAITH. It gives people hope in life. The Holy Bible (The Old and New Testaments), the Qu'ran, the Torah are not only our history, but they are all guidelines to live fulfilling, loving, peaceful, purposeful lives and to know that in the end you will be rewarded with Heaven.

I am a Judeo Christian, I am a Woman of Faith, believing in my God and accepting that his son Jesus was my personal savior. He died for our sins. Humanities sins. It is my purpose in life to live by his word, praise the day the 'savior' came and will come again. To teach my children to be righteous in God's words.

Sounds brainwashed to you? Sounds more to me like I have a purpose to be here.
IF you have ever been outside of the US, have ever walked through poverty strickened areas of this world..you would come away with a different point of view. The one thing that keeps many of the poor, the desperate, the hungry, sick and the dying going is their belief, their FAITH in GOD. The majority of groups out their feeding, lending aid and their time/money are religious groups doing the Lord's work.

For the same reason that people are deceived about the theory of evolution. Faith. It takes more faith to believe in evolution than it does to believe in God. Science changes itself every day as each new discovery is made. God never changes. He is always there, always consistant. I'm sorry you feel the way you do but the choice is yours.

A couple of reasons. Fear of the unknown. Also, when your life sucks, you want to believe that there is another place where things will be better. That someone will "save" you. Usually because they need direction. Something to believe in. It is what motivates half the world so what does that say about us?

Religion is like candy. It tastes good for the soul. Unfortunately it's empty calories, and will give you intellectual diabetes.
