The Cabbage Soup Diet is perhaps the ultimate fad diet and has been around in various guises for years.

It's a starvation or fasting diet, not as extreme as some but very low in calories all the same. Essentially, you eat the soup, which is best made yourself, combined with various other foods on different days.

The diet confers some wight loss benefits on cabbage, much as the Grapefruit Diet does on grapefruit, but there's no scientific basis for these claims. It could be any low calorie, fibrous vegetable - broccolli for instance (fiber fills you up but can't be digested by the body so has 'no calories').

Cabbage is also used as it's reckoned that it takes more calories to digest and assimilate than it contains - the negative calorie principle.

Follow the link below for an example recipe and diet plan.

You follow the diet for seven days and are purported to be able to lose up to 10lbs.

However, the Cabbage Soup Diet has all the same failings as other soup/liquid/fasting diets. They're promoted as a quick fix, a way of achieving rapid weight loss.

Such diets make your body think you're starving. It slows down your metabolism and burns lean tissue to conserve body fat and save energy. Very counter-productive for weight loss!

Besides, most of the weight lost will be water and will go straight back on again once you start eating properly again.

I would not recommend the Cabbage Soup Diet.

The best way to achieve long term weight loss is to skip the fad diets and eat a wide range of foods from all the main food groups - lean protein, wholegrains, fruit and veg - eat less fat and sugar, eat a bit less than you're burning, eat every 3-4 hours and exercise regularly.

Best wishes with the weight loss

This is a very dangerous diet my friend. The body is not made to just run off cabbage. A better way would be to join a health club or consult a doctor first. Best of luck, but stay away from the cabbage method.

i havent heard of this diet, but one word of caution,,, if you purchase any type soups, get the low sodium ones, as the regular ones, all brands, are very high in salt/sodium and are bad for your healthheart, especially if you have them often,,
with any diet, its usually best to work with a varied one, while maybe yes featuring a certain item, such as cabbage soup,,,,, but you dont want to eat just one thing, any one thing, too much,,,,,, while it might help you lose a few quick pounds, it doesnt work in the long run, and will mess up the balance in your body
homemade or low sodium soups are a good diet choice, with homemade being the best,,,,,, as you are getting full yet limiting calories,,,,, and cutting down on meat
sorry this didnt exactly answer your question,,,,

No, it has to be cabbage. Here's why: cabbage takes more calories to digest than it actually gives your body in nutrition, so when you eat it, its like eating grapefruit. Also, not to mention that cabbage soup tastes horrible, so you are bound to eat less anyway.

I hope this is not the only thing you'll be eating as cabbage depletes your iodine level. You need nutrients from various sources to stay healthy. Eat more lean meat, whole grains, lots of clean fruits and veggies to get diff types of vitamins and minerals, and drink lots of water as well as exercising will do you a lot of good.

Foods like cheese stand out as among the most fat-laden, with a great number of calories coming from fat. But as important as it is to select the healthiest foods, it is also important to consider how they are prepared.

It is easy to make, and important to have fresh ingredients, so I would say you have to make it.

It takes about ten minutes to cut up veggies to throw in a pot, not alot of time, and worthwhile.
