Here are the top ten reason we guys love golf.
10: No one makes us wear a tie.
9: Drinks before 5:00? No problem!
8: Only sport that includes mobile "drink cart".
7: We get to hit things.
6: We get to cuss.
5: We don't have to cut any of the grass.
4: There's a bar right there at the course!
3: "He's on the golf course" sounds better than "He's
off drinking again this afternoon"
2: What other game lets you carry "clubs"?
And the Number 1 reason we guys love golf is:
1: We get to race around in those little cars.

As a man ages, golf is one of the few remaining chances for him to reconnect with his youth. A man's golf buddies are analogous to the other groups he has associated with earlier in his life such as: neighborhood kids, high school sports teams, college fraternity brothers, etc.
In addition, golf allows a man to compete. Whether it's for a few dollars with his regular golf buddies or the final match in the club championship, this competitive spirit is something the game has always been about. In our very "PC" world these days, aggression and competition is often subdued or frowned upon in many walks of life, however golf allows the ingrained masculine need to compete to come out in a socially acceptable and civilized way.
So you see, when guys like me run off and can't wait to play our appointed rounds of golf, its not because we don't love and cherish the women in our life, its because we can't wait to feel young again .. if only for a few hours a week with our buddies.
I hope that helps.
Good Luck!

Who says its just guys? My female friends and I play every chance we can get. Golf is a game of strategy and skill that continually challenges, disappoints and rewards the golfer -- a microcosm of life. It is also a game that can be played with friends or alone; as a team event or an individual event. Each shot is different and requires different clubs and different strategies. The more you learn about golf, the more addicted you become -- striving for perfection that you can never reach.

I must say ALL of the above answers are very accurate so the only thing I can add is that in golf, the better you are,the less you get to play.

Because it is a sport in which your greatest competitor is yourself. There is nothing quite like the feeling of hitting a 200 yard drive dead center of the fairway, chipping in from 75 feet off of the green, making that birdie putt. Beautifully landscaped courses, bird song, perfect weather, cold beer. I love golf. come to Myrtle Beach and I'll teach you how to play. It is addicting.

I don't personally like golf. I know how to play....I can only give you the basics though, the tricks and tips are a bit difficult to explain. You go to the desiginated starting point (tee box), place small ball with dimples (golf ball) on wood or plastic stand that you have poked into the ground (tee). Stand so that you are facing the previous assembly with your non dominate foot closest to the hole in the ground where you want the ball to go (cup). This hole usually has a rod with a flag on it sticking out of it (pin). Hold long stick that has a wider and heavier end (club) with the wider heavier end near ball. Whack ball in direction you want it to go. This is a stroke.
Walk to resting place of ball, you don't get to use a "tee" this time. Assume the same stance as before with "club" and whack ball again. Replace any chunk of grass that you kick up (divot). Repeat until ball goes in hole. Count # of strokes for hole and write it down. Repeat for each hole (9, 18, 27, 36....multiples of 9). The person with least number of strokes wins.
There are different clubs that are designed to launch the ball different distances, different ways to hit the ball so it curves right or left (hook or slice) or so it rolls forward or backward (spin). There are also usually little geographic obstacles (hazzards) that you try to avoid and boundries to a hole. Hazzards consist usually of sand traps and water. If you wander into one of these you can try to whack your way out, or you can take a one stroke penalty and drop your ball near the hazzard. If you go out of bounds you place ball back in bounds, and take one stroke penalty.
My favorite part of golfing has always been the beer cart girl. A hot girl that drives a cooler of beer around the course. You buy beers and flirt and oogle her.
Hope this helps.

I reckon the game of golf actually represents the entire life cycle of the male species. They spend all day chasing the elusive birdie just so they can sink small balls into small holes.
