The concept of war is mentioned in the Quran only six times. First, God and his messenger declare a spiritual war on the rich who make money by unproductive financial transactions (interest, currency trade, stock market speculation, derivatives). He asks creditors to give debtors time, or better yet, to forgive the debt as charity. 2:278

Second, after praising Abel for not fighting back when Cain murdered him, and decreeing that killing one soul is like killing all humanity, God condemns mass murder by gangs, calling it a war against law and order. The only exceptions are killing in self defense and court ordered execution of a murderer when the victim's family does not forgive. 5:27

Third, we learn that people in certain groups will keep trying to kindle a fire of war, and God promises to put it out. 5:64

Fourth, God condemns nations that regularly violate international treaties and start wars. He requires other nations to prepare forces of deterrence against such wars.

Fifth, the Quran tells us that warmongers will commit mass murder and falsely blame it on Muslims in an attempt to start a war against Muslims. Fortunately, the verses tell us that such plots are fragile, built on the crumbling edge of a mud hill, bound to collapse with the plotters into Hell. 9:107ff

Finally, God tells us that when war is over, the killing must stop and prisoners must be exchanged or set free. 47:4

It is interesting how these verses may be tied together in a scheme that gives us a fresh perspective of current world events.

Nations under military attack have to stick to very strict rules of self defense. "You may use lethal force with God's permission only against those who are currently using lethal force against you . . . but you may only kill the ones you confront in battle, and you may only expel your opponents from places they have previously expelled you from. Mass murder because of religion is worse than plain killing. . . . use force to stop it so that people's souls are free under God alone. If they stop using force, then you stop, too . . . Respond only with equal counter attack . . ." 2:190ff

Since the invention of bombs, it has become nearly impossible to limit combat killing to those who are currently trying to kill you. When "collateral damage" is expected, it is akin to premeditated mass murder, not self defense. This defeats the sole purpose of self defense: to preserve one's life and the lives of defenseless civilians.

Nowadays, atrocities, especially wars against people of a certain faith, must be stopped with international non-lethal pressure. It seems as if God expected that, by the time we invented bombs and machine guns, we would be evolved enough to deter and eliminate wars.

Even the terrorist are deviated from the Real Jihad, but they did not say they kill somebody only because he is not Muslim...

They believe they are fighting who fight them and look to US troops as they are not in tourism program in Afghanistan and Iraq. And before that Israel did not buy the Lands from Palestinians...

Any way those terrorist are not the the mainstream of the majority of Muslims....

Sorry, but the Quran mentions war much more than that. There's a whole Surah that describes ownership of loot gotten from conflict. It also repeats incessantly how Allah misguide enemies to be easily defeated and makes several references to past conflicts.

yay, thanks for bringing this up. As a proud Muslim, i was going to put something similar like this but alas my hatred for typing got in the way. Islam doesn't promote violence, it's stupid terrorists who think that they are doing the right thing. They will burn in hell for an eternity and justice will be served both here and on the day of judgment by Allah (swt)

Good job! I haven't looked at the others answers, but I hope there is nothing negative to be said about Muslims.
Edit:
I should have known that there would be negative answers!
Oh, well. I'm a lover and not a fighter.
Isn't it silly that people believe that innocent people should be wiped eradicated because of actions done by other people?
Yet, if you try to point out that non-Muslims kill too then you are accused of hating them, blah blah blah.
Do people really think that by getting rid of Muslims then all the violence in the world would end?

It is a riddle to me why peole need and 2000 year -or so- book like the koran or bible to know that killing others is wrong. No book or any gods can ever justify the killing of innocent people. To claim otherwise is only proof of an perverted and sick mind.

You question is simple. Koran was created in a time of conflict. Its going to call for its people to stand up and fight. That's just the way it goes. God himself laid waste to whole civilizations (children included). Is God evil. Hummmmm....

LMAO!

Love the Avatar!

Just goes to make my suspicion that Yahoo Staff are pro-Islamic stronger.

Now. regarding the "Peaceful Islam", can you please explain why and how is that Muslim Leaders like Sheik Bilal say that it is the sacred duty of all Muslims to support al Queda?

Also, please do explain how is it that the Muslims attack Hindus and Buddhists in India and South Thailand, respectively?

Why did the Pakistani Muslim immigrants and crazed Hindu convert to Islam do the London Train Bombing?

Why do your Muslims say that they are Superior and all others are inferior?

Why does it say, in the Koran, that you must kill all the infidels and let only the People of the Book [Christians] live there, subject to their accepting your terms of paying a special tax and living as your inferiors?

With all the overwhelming evidence Islam, why do you expect that the rest of us shouldn't retaliate and wipe you people off the face of the Earth?

You say only a few of your people are doing these bad things. How do we know which one is good and which one bad?

You spoke of acceptable collateral damage, well, it's acceptable to us to see a lot of acceptable collateral damage when the action begins against Islam!

You can't expect us to forever stay patient with your kind when you fly planes into our buildings, blow up our trains, massacre innocent people and then say it's just a few of you, whom you hide in your midst to let them attack us again and again.

Some day soon, the rest of the World will first of all ban your "Religion " in all non-Islamic Countries and tear down all your Mosques and deport you guys back to the Islamic Countries where you all belong.

At the next provocation, you can then expect nuclear response.

We can't help it, your people are forcing these options on us!

After all, like you said, we need to protect ourselves and it's your people who are doing all the damage.

Interesting, thank you.

This flies in the face of those who are constantly harping on about how the Quran promotes violence.
