Its a disturbing though that some of the brightest individuals are sometime contemplating suicide.... there is so much to live for. Atheists are the hope for a better future. We need to balance out all the craziness that is going on in our world.

No, I'm not considering suicide. I do think that atheists tend to value life more, since we realize how short and precious it is. If you think you're going to live forever afterwards, you tend to not mind wasting it. You'd have far less martyrs if people realized that this life is all you have.

Hello Ga. I agree in the need for balance however, i do not think for one sweet moment that one particular category of people are the answer. Atheists can still murder, rape, be prejudice and hate.......i am not a devote christian nor am i an atheist. I believe a better hope in the future lays with a variety of people - to learn and teach each other. How can we say that one group is the best? Categories can be dangerous wouldn't you say?

Most people who commit suicide have a mental illness of one sort or another. If you can make a case for religion being a form of mental illness, then perhaps you can say that religious types are more likely to commit suicide. I don't believe in a god and I have no intention of killing myself. There's too much to do and see to end it any time soon.

i agree with nondescript. atheists are probably less likely to commit suicide because they value the one and only life.

i have lived in four different countries and traveled all over Asia in the last decade. but i don't do drugs, steal or any of those other "sinful" things that Christians imagine atheists doing. i try to live life to the fullest, that's all.

Not at the moment!

Everybody thinks about dieing now and then. You would hardly be normal if you did not. The thing isd to realize it is just a passing phase and not follow up on it. If you find yourself actually planning it then get help. Even if you are just thinking about it away too much, get help.

I'm sure somewhere there's an Atheist thinking about offing himself, there are probably people from all walks of life killing themselves right now.............comforting thought.

I intend to stick around for as long as I can.

Hopefully I'll live to see my great grand children one day.

As an atheist, I think about it sometimes - but I don't worry about it, thank God.

I did when I was being overly dramatic about something a week ago. I'm better now.
