Not all the words in the bible are words of God. Some are words of Satan.
There are no errors in the Bible which are the words of God. and it is true God can not lie.
I will sight to you some words of Satan in the book of Job.
Job 1:7 And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence, comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
Job 1:8 And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered, my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?
Job 1:9 Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for naught?
Job 1:10 Hast not thou made a hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side?, thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.
Job 1:11 But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.
Job 1:12 And the LORD said unto Satan,Behold all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth, thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.

there are not mistakes, just errors in the way some interpret the passages. After over 2000 years this book stands as written as the inspired work God intended, for that long people have been saying the same things about errors and all that bunk... the Bible stands as always, and the critics all are dead, or in the process of dying, and the Bible will remain... If you don't care to believe it, just take that decision, but don't use the lame ancient excuse that the Bible is full of errors. Love YOU!!! Jesus does too!!

there can be errors from translation or from printing, however the message that the bible teaches is infallible. The bible is the inspired word of God. God spoke the words to the biblical authors who interpreted them for the audiences for whom they were writting. if the authors used scientific explanations, they were using the scientific knowledge of the day and made perfect sense to those who were reading or being taught about it.
God did not take a pen and write the bible. he gave the message to mankind and allowed them to use the imagination and intellect he had gifted them with to explain the message for his people. God never makes mistakes. however, humans can make mistakes when expressing the will of god, but not the message of god. the message is what is infallible and everlasting.

If you really want to have a serious discussion about this subject you must stop referring to the bible as a book. It is two distinct separate collections of writings. If you are catholic you throw in 7 more writings for good measure. If you are mormon you throw in writings of Joseph Smith. If you are Jewish you ignore the n.t. If you are gnostic you throw out the o.t. and add writings by the disciples that the church excluded. So what bible are you talking about?

Only the autographed copies of the original manuscripts by the inspired prophets are error free. That said, despite thousands of years, and hundreds of translations, the biblical texts remain over 98% textually pure. Where there are obvious translation errors, they are minor and have no impact on the fundamental Christian doctrines.
For an analysis of the various translations of the bible see:
http://faith.propadeutic.com/questions.html
For accurate translations of the bible at the literal level I recommend you use the NASB or ESV translations.
If you run across what you think is a biblical contradiction, please study the two sites' content below for a comprehensive list of so-called biblical contradictions.

In the ultra non-sophisticated world of Christianity, it is reasonable to believe that the bible is god's word. Most non-Christians know that god did not write the bible, and also that the bible was not written in English.

No, it's a selection of tales and legends inspired by the stories that bronze age middle eastern goat herders were telling at night around the camp fire, playing to scare each other.

Yes.
But what is the Bible?
It is the Old Testament in the Original Hebrew and the New Testament in the Original Greek.
There are no English Translations that are perfect.

God didn't write the Bible, a bunch of old men did and a bunch of old Catholics decided which writings were going to be in it.
