i need it for my project. i dont know what my project is going to be but my brother said i could look for programmable processors that i can buy online and then think of some applications later.

there are several manufacturers out there. Atmel, Philips, Cygnal, Microchip, etc... I would suggest figuring out an application first, then buy the processor for the app. also know what language you are going to write your code in, and have the right compiler and programmer.

It depends on what language you want to program, the most popular are BASIC, C/C++ there is also JAVA. You can look at parallax.com and rabbitsemiconductors.com, there are many more online. Parallax has basic and java versions, rabbitsemiconductor uses C.
