English is not an international language, its the dominant business language. Just as Greek was during the classical period and Latin was during the Roman period. The culture with the most wealth dictates the means by which others communicate with them.

In another 100 years, we could easily all be speaking Chinese or Russian.

An international language is convenient for diplomacy between nations. French was the international language before English that's why we have a French Preamble in the U.S. Passport.

As to why English is the current International Language?

English Colonization in virtually every corner of the world was certainly contributory. Also America enjoyed the position of influence in politics and markets after WW II and the U.S. dollar became the common currency of commerce.

English is only genuinely the International Language in Aviation. By International treaty it's agreed, pilots and air traffic controllers must speak English.

English is often used as a lingua-franca because England colonized nearly all of the world. Later, the US became a global economic power. The two events are the biggest contributors of Englishes widespread use.

It sure isn't because it's a logical language. The more I learn about other languages, the more I realize English is a mess and I'm glad I grew up with it as my native language.

Becuse people in USA speaks English and USA is one of the most powerful country.

Another reason why English become an international language is that because UK occupied a lot of countries.

it was a time when Sun did not set on English regimes. they taught their language where they dominated, like India etc.
