I have a 60" Sony rear projection 1080p television, with a blu-ray disc player. My room is about 12ft by 18ft and one wall is completly open, what is the best A/V receiver I could purchase for about 1000-1500 US or 1200-1700 CAN. I do not want a low quality receiver, i have heard the marantz sr7001 is a good choice. Is it? I need 2-4 HDMI Inputs and only 1 HDMI Output.

Thank you, all answers are greatly appreciated.

The Marantz is good (as well as Denon), and I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed with this receiver, but I prefer Onkyo, NAD, and if you can afford it, Arcam. Pioneer Elite is also an excellent choice if you want the most features along with excellent sound for your money. My choices are listed below by their sound quality and overall audio performance.

1) Arcam DiVA AVR280

2) NAD T753, T754, or the T773

3) Onkyo TX-SR804

4) Pioneer Elite VSX-84TXSi

Marantz makes some great products, so does rotel and b&k. I like the rotel over the marantz because they have a great power supply. The best thing to honestly do is go check them all out. Listen to them and see which ones you like best. Most will sound the same but pair up with a local hifi shop. Don't go to a big chain box store, they pay their people like crap and don't know much. I personally have a Yamaha RXV-1700. I got that one becuase I had a connection for 50% off. There really are tons of great receivers out there. Check out the rotel. They have a great power supply.

I would by a separate surround sound preamplifier and a separate 5, 6, or 12 channel power amplifier to have the best .There is no tuner in the pre-amp but i don't think it matters.
NAD are one of the best makers of audiophile equipment .They believe that the audio section of an A/V amplifier should have the best sound possible.

The NAD S170i is an excellent surround sound pre-amp with all the features you will need.

The NAD S 250 is a 5x125W. Continuous power amp.
The NAD CI 9060 is a 6x80w.Continuous power amp.
The NAD CI 9120 is a 12x80W Continuous power amp.

The beauty of having separate surround sound pre and power amps is you can update the parts without having to buy the full unit.As i said i'm not shure how much they cost but you can usually get them at reasonable prices .
Good luck ,Rob.

i personally own a marantz sr8001 great reciever, very warm and natural. in the past i owned bk seperates, and although bk is a great choice, it is not what it used to be. If you are the type to like bells and whistles the yamaha has great dsp features. Denon has long been a favorite for many, although i personally prefer bk or marantz. If your not afraid of the new kid on the block give serious consideration to outlaw. sold factory direct and you get alot for your money, HT mag has given great reviews in the past on all thier equipment.

Pioneer Elite Receivers pack a good punch and can drive large amounts of power the most Ive seen in HDMI connections though are 3 in and1 out. One other thing I would look for is THX certification simply because they need to pass the certification test but you probably already know that. Other Receivers I can recommend would be Yamaha Denon and Onkyo.

It all depends on your speakers my friend. See if you have high end speakers (B&W my choice) you will benifit from a high end reciever like Rotel (my choice), Nad B&K ect. If you have middle of the road speakers Infinity, Polk ect then go with the Yamaha or Pioneer and save a some money.

Marantz is fine. They're owned by Denon, which is another top choice. I also think Onkyo is as good (and easier to set up & use). Yamaha is okay, but I don't think their quality is as good as the above.

Yamaha makes a great line of receivers. Your best bet is to go to a Home Theater speciality store and not a box store. They usually have specialist that work there and can evaluate your needs and offer solutions. Good luck
