we all have one don't we? that part of us that gets impatient and wants to shove old ladies out of the way in line at the grocery store, or run cars off the road when they cut us off--things that we don't even recognize as being in our nature to think and feel and yet for moments here and there "something" comes over us and that imp inside us rises, making us want to lash out at our boss or go on a three day drinking binge in the middle of the week--not that we act on these impulses, but the thoughts that cross the mind can scare you--do you blame the devil? Or do you recognize that we all have this monster inside that we keep shackled and bound and hidden away in the dark? I named my monster excelsior, what would you name yours?

The monster is not inside me.
The monster is of me.
And I, of it.
I am at peace with this.
Why do you hide yours?
Why do you not accept your nature?
Are you afraid of your own shadow?
Or are you afraid of the opinions of those who do not matter?
If they get in your way, put your hand on their face, and push.
Hard.
Glorify in what you are, for you are the finest creation of the Universe.
And if a few shopping trolleys have to become wedged under your SUV as you negotiate the car park of life, so be it.
Life life to the fullest!
Embrace your inner bunny-boiler!
Be the truly rotten person You are.
Then, when you've logged off from Y!A R&S, go back to being the meek little thing everyone knows and loves.
I know I do.

I don't have a name for it, I just accept it as a thread woven into the fabric of everything else that makes me Christy.

There used to be a lot of thoughts that would cross my mind and scare me.

When I accepted that thinking something didn't make me "bad", not only did the thoughts not scare me anymore, the type of thoughts that had once scared me occurred far less often.

I don't have a "monster inside me."

Everything I do comes from ME. If I drink too much, it's because I did it. If I want to shove old ladies or smack children, it's because of ME. I'm the one feeling that way.

Saying "the devil made me do it" or whatever is escapism. We're all human beings who feel frustrated sometimes, and who feel angry sometimes. Calling it "the devil inside" or whatever is just a means of disassociating our guilt from ourselves, and reassigning blame.

Be a real (wo)man and just face up to your own frailties.

Sin!
Romans 7:20 But if I am doing the very thing I do not want, I am no longer the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me.

The Bible calls it the flesh and its works are described in Galatians 5:19-21. Praise God our flesh had been crucified in Christ (Rom 6:6) so we can set ourselves free from it by faith by walking in the Spirit.
