My 16 yr. old daughter and a friend wanted to dye her hair a deep, dark purple; she used the bleaching solution first, as recommended, and her hair was light red, then a red/black toward the bottom (she had dyed her hair black some months ago, and had it bleached to a deep red a while later). Her friend tried to also put some blue in with the purple to create dark blue highlights. Now, my daughter has very light purple, light and dark blue, and reddish black hair. She used the brand Manic Panic. I told her I'd get her into a stylist tomorrow (too late tonight), but she's beside herself. Anything we can do at home? Thanks for your time and any help you can offer.

I definitely wouldn't try it at home. The bleaching and then the dying have already done a ton of damage to your poor daughter's hair. And trying to fix it yourself would only cause more damage with another dying soooo close to this first botched one. A stylist will know how to time it better so that your daughter's hair suffers the least amount of damage. I would strongly recommend y'all wait until tomorrow because it could really fry her hair and that isn't really fixable. Tomorrow isn't too far away. I'm sorry it happened. But I wouldn't do it myself. Always use a professional for hair dying of this magnitude (a lot more complicated than just your standard Clariol brunette dye). Good luck!

You May Be Able To Remove Some Of The Color By Shampooing Several Times And Using A "PAK" (A Mixture Of Mayonaise And Yogurt) Put It THICKLY On Her Hair And Wrap It Snugly With Plastic Wrap. Over This Wrap A Towel "Turban Style" And Leave The Mixture On For 1 Hour Then Rinse And Shampoo (This May Take A Few Treatments But, It Will Condition The Hair Too.) It Should Remove The Color But, You May Still Need To Go To The Salon.

A similar thing happened to me once. Attempts at correcting it myself resulted in burns to my scalp which left me with scabs all over my head. A similar hair colouring disaster left me with pink hair and rather than attempting to correct it - I did learn something - i didn't touch it, enjoyed pink hair for a week and then went to the hairdresser to fix it. The moral of my story is this: Don't do anything futher with your daughters hair and visit her hair stylist. It is not worth the risk of further complications to her hair. In the meantime see if your daughter can make her current hair work for by styling it in a way that minimises the colours ie tight pullbacked hair with a headband, trendy hats or head scarves which are hot right now anyway. I sugest that she doesn't wash it either as the natural oils have a way of darkening hair slightly.Best of luck!!

It really is the best to leave it to a professional colorist. Your daughter mixed a lot of different dyes on her hair wihout full knowledge. I'm surprised she got away with bleaching to a deeper red. Reds are most tricky colors to bleach, one might end up with brassy green hair.

You can use a hair rinse or a temporary color that washes out in one wash. Just for today. They sell them at drug stores or beauty supply stores.

There is a product in most chemists / drug stores, called " Begin Again ". It is a hair stripper. It will take her hair colour back to a lighter shade. So she can start from scratch. Good Luck.

Lousy idea to try and fix it at home. Wait for the stylist. Best thing she can do is to wash it now and condition it, dry it naturally without heat, and go to bed. The stylist has the best chance to fix it.
