Any number multiplied by some number and divided by same number, in other words multiply by 1, gives you the same number.
Here n is multiplied by 4 and divided By 4 means n is multiplied by 1
i.e. n = n à 1 = n

You certainly can write it that way, and will need do it if you want to add n to 1/4. Then you will write n as 4*n/4 so that you can add the fractions with the same denominators: 4*n/4 + 1/4 = (n+1)/4
