The moisture in your hands causes your skin to swell. The wrinkles are caused by the ligaments and other tissues that keep your skin attached to your muscle tissue. The dips in your fingers indicate where the connective tissues lie under your skin.

Hi Candy,

surprisingly the skin on your hands and fingers wrinkles after immersion in water (your bath, for example) because the water dries the skin out!

That sounds a bit crazy, but it isn't. What dries out are the natural oils in the skin...the result is the same as you get with advanced age...wrinkles!

Of course, unlike with the age problem the oils in your skin are replenished after a while and your skin returns to its natural smooth appearance (if you happen to be 95 years old, this will take a LOT longer, of course!)

Hope that helps you understand why yur skin behaves the way it does...and don't spend too long in that lovely warm water!

Cheers,

BobSpain
