I am 16, and am on Lyrica. It has helped me wonders, but I have been reading that it is dangerous and addictive.
Can you explain?

It can be addictive if when you get off of it you don't do it properly. Usually addiction means that you can't get enough of it and so you are taking it and keep needing more of the medication until you reach a dangerous point where it can hurt your body. If you take it as directed by your doctor it shouldn't be dangerous and addictive. It's great that it's helping you...I have Complex Regional Pain Syndrome and I was on it for about a year and it never helped me, but if it's helping you so much just make sure you take it as directed by your doctor and you will be fine!

That person has been doing this on some other categories as well. Sorry that you got affected by that.
In answer to your question about Lyrica it can be dangerous when it comes to some of the side effects. I know of someone in one of my Yahoogroups that tried to take it for managing some of her pain and ended up with heart problems because of it.
As for being addictive I just did a search on it and one site (an alternative medicine site) tried to say it was indeed addictive. But I found a different site that says just the opposite:

I've never heard of it being addictive as it one of it's primary goals is to treat seizure disorders in patients such as those with epilepsy.
I would recommend talking to your mom and dr about your concerns as well.

My primary care doctor is also an addiction medicine specialist and the info he gave me on Lyrica says it is not addictive. I was given it for nerve pain but at $200 for a month I've not been able to try it.

I have taken it before and it was ordered by my pain management doc and it is not addictive but does have bad side effects in some people. First, it knocked me OUT for the first week and then it swelled up my ankles and feet something horrible so i had to get off of it. Now my sister takes it and it really helps her alot so EVERYONE is different so just be careful and read the instructions and warnings that come with the script. Take care..................
