I drink tea all the time, because like most people I need caffiene to function semi-normally, but I will literally drink a gallon of tea in one day. Is this normal?

Um, tea does have water in it. The way I make it is I brew it in a coffee pot, and pour it into a glass gallon jar. That only fills the jar up halfway, and guess what I put in it to fill it all the way up. Water! It's not the tea. It doesn't matter what I drink, I'm still thirsty.

Do you take any medications? Some side effects include dry mouth, increased thirst. You should look into that.

Also diabetics have increased thirst.

If you are very active, your body might just need more fluids.

I drink 3-4 litres of water a day, as well as a litre of tea, and one (20 oz) cup of coffee. In the summer I drink 1-2 litres more water. I am not diabetic, and I have always drank this much water (I don't drink anything other than water, tea and coffee). So it may not mean a health problem. I do take meds that increase thirst, but haven't always.

Anyway, I would suggest a physical to rule possible health problems out. If you are always thirsty even with drinking that much, then I would talk to a doctor about it, just to be safe, and to get his/her advice.

according to discovery health, there may be an underlying problem or no problem at all. you should still ask a doctor. some things to consider are: is this unusuall for you? if not, how long do you recall having this thirst? are you very active? do you have a physical job? are you this thirsty in all weather? what kind of climate do you live in?

caffeine increases thirst (personal knowledge). so the more caffeine you consume, the thirstier you will be. my husband use to have the same problem. he also drank a gallon a day. i finally convinced him to cut out the majority of the tea and drink some water. his thirst issue was resolved. but that doesn't mean that that is the case with you. see your doctor, and if he gives you a clean bill of health, cut your caffeine consumption way down and drink more water, see if that works.

Tea can make you more thirsty, the tanins seem to dry you out. Its also a diuretic so you will need to pee a lot too.
I suggest drinking at least 2 litres of water a day, and have decaffinated tea. it doesn't taste much different and will also help the fight against cellulite!
Just want to add, once you are peeing regularly and it is clear in colour then you are re-hydrated. If it is still radioactive looking then you need to drink more. If you are in a hot climate or an air conditioned room, you will drink lots more and this is perfectly normal.

each person's normal is different. here the past 3 weeks i've been eating one to two half gallons of Edy's rocky road ice cream a day, is that normal, not for me. any way, is it the caffeine boost you are truly looking for or real true thirst. if your truly thirsty, cut out sugar and cafffeine just drink 8 (8 oz) of water .after that the rest is well, just tea. when u are drinking that much tea in a day, especially if its sweet u, are just throwing your bod into diabetuic mode

Tea has caffeine...caffiene is dehyrdrant.

You can drink a gallon a tea a day...sure it has water, but you're drinking a ton of caffiene too.

You're dehydrated.

Also, know that frequent, insatiable thirst is also symptomatic of diabetes.
