Been there, done that. I flew into GC Airport and caught the bus to the El Tovar where I had reservations for a 3 night stay. From there, I used the rim trail (easy walking) to see the area between the Bright Angel trailhead on the west end of the village to Mather Point and the Canyon View Information Plaza to the east. That's a distance of a couple miles, one way, but very easy to walk. If you don't want to walk back the way you came, jump on the free park shuttle to get back to the village. To see the west rim out to Hermit's Rest, take the free shuttle near the Bright Angel trailhead. To see the east rim out to Desert View, pay for a half day tour that starts at Bright Angel Lodge. When leaving, take the bus back to the Airport. The park newspaper will give you all the information you need to find your way around or ask a ranger, other visitors and the people that work there. Below is a web link to maps of the south rim area.

Well, your at the Grand Canyon? Take the bus to the rim, then use the ol feet! Wish I were there!
I thought about a bike a few times but generally the places I go have cabs, rentals, or loaners! I might have to try the Canyon - wonder if a small Harley will fit in the back of a Twin Comanche? -- nope, guess I better get a bigger plane :)

Taxi or rent-a-car. There are those little folding bikes, you're right. I've never had one, but it might be fun in the right circumstances.

Look down.. See those two things at the ends of your legs?.. Belive it or not, in the ancient days, people used their feet to get from point a to point b.
