Christianity has Paul, C.S. Lewis, and myself, all good writers that can craft a great argument. Deism has Thomas Paine, a great author though mistaken on numerous accounts. But Atheism has Richard Dawkins, who in comparsion is like first grade level in debate and logic. It is beginning to really make me sad that all the Atheists have to rally behind is Dawkins, it seems sad having to debate people whose minds have not reached logical maturity yet. What could we do to help these poor, unlearned, unlettered men and women of Atheism? Certainly no one is beyond redemption.

Funny, I'm actually reading Dawkins at the moment. I was resistant, as I had formed a view of him as being some kind of "fundamental atheist," rallying the forces to his call. But after wading through a few apologist tracts, I needed to find something that actually had some meat to it. I have to say I think the claim that Mr Dawkins is one of the three best thinkers of the age is somewhat overblown - but then I'm not especially fond of Eco or Chomsky either.

However, I have been pleasantly surprised by "The God Delusion," as it does actually back up its claims with more than just "it's in the Bible so it must be true." I know I know, but for all the (alleged) fancy rhetoric, that is what the basic theological argument comes down to. Which I find horrendously disappointing - I'm still looking for something to actually make me seriously question my "non-beliefs." I want to be challenged, I really do. Lead me to the serious theology and I will gladly devour it.

Oh, and pride is a "sin" - comparing yourself with CS Lewis is beyond conceit. At least he recounted his journey from scepticism to belief in clear and entertaining terms, and I'm certain he never would have employed the fallacious use of a capital "A" for atheism.

First grade level is pretty severe. You're over playing your hand.

"Intellectual fall of Atheism" is also over harsh. I've had the pleasure of debating a few highly educated Atheists who were challenging. Just not in this forum. Here there are only a bunch of jerks who have nothing better to do with their time than insult people.

Also, just to put stuff into perspective, being a good writer is not a good indication of intellectual prowess. I've also met some rednecks who were the equivalent of 8th grade drop outs and couldn't write a complete sentence of 4 words correctly but were still cunning or shrewd in their own way.

Atheism has many greater writers than Dawkins. So does agnosticism. So do Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, and Judaism. Great writing and philosophical understanding are not limited to any one religion.

Please take a global philosophy course and learn of the great writers of all religions and none.

Please don't assume we're all uneducated. We're not. We're generally pretty smart too, just like anyone else. For instance (not to brag, but because it's easy to use myself as an example) 163 LSAT, which is 90th percentile of all LSAT test-takers (which is the upper quarter of college students generally). Several people I know who are not religious scored even higher. The LSAT is a decent measure of logic, and I'd say that score makes me fairly good at logic.

Richard Dawkins doesn't answer for atheists. Where do you get this B.S from? Most atheists can walk all over a typical theistically infected person in a debate and typically do with ease. The typical theist has no idea of logic or reason.

Perhaps you haven't heard of Carl Sagan. Or Sam Harris (The End of Faith), in addition to Dawkins and many others.
And, are you serious? C.S.Lewis, a defender of the faith? In addition to you, yourself.
Not all atheists are 'unlearned, unlettered'. I would still be a disbeliever if there were no well-known nontheist writers because I am capable of thinking and reasoning for myself!
You really should consider your symptoms--delusions of grandeur, flight of ideas, and resume your meds.
Thanks all the same--I need no sympathy from you.

I will be certain to send my deepest condolences to all the Christains I am acquainted with.
How terrible for them to suffer such a loss.
Now they'll have to find someone else to hate.
After all, if they don't hate, they don't sin, and if they don't sin, they don't get their frequent forgiveness miles.

While I think of it, Christains rally themselves behind One book, why can't anyone else?
Or is that all part of the "Exclusive Country Club" mentality that affects their creed?
Do you really Need to be so different?
Another attitude driving me further from "The Faith".

C.S. Lewis is a fourth-rate writer. It seems you're in the same league. Shall I point out the dangling modifier?

I hope all the christians who read this will now think twice before saying atheists are the ones stirring people up and inflating egos. And realize that not all christians are nice people who have been saved

Considering the fact that Atheism is logically indefensible (you cannot prove an absolute negative), it doesn't seem reasonable that more intelligent people would want to defend this position.
