Well, dam... let me go get my checkbook... I'm German and even though none of my imediate ancestors had anything to do with the sufferings the Jewish had to endure, if I go with the logic of this chick I seem to owe them a sum.
Come on!! Look at it another way: You go out and torture a man. A few generations later, your great-great-great-great grandson gets a knock on his door. Its a decendant from the tortured man's family. He's asking for compensation for what your ancestor did to his ancestor. What is your great - - - grandson gonna say?
"Get the F#@% off of my property!"
Why should anyone expect people today to literally pay for the actions of people decades ago?
1. We did not directly do it
2. The individual related to the mistreated does not deserve whatever compensation is being asked for. The mistreatment was not done to him/her!
3. At the time is was a legal business practice. Most people (ie. slave owners) did not view it as wrong because of this.
4. Get over it already!! The past is in the past. Nothing can be changed. Deal with it. I believe people should focus on our children's future, trying to make it the very best we can, not constantly digging up and complaining about what cannot be altered.

No. I don't condone any type of racism and support immigration, bilingual education, affirmative action, anti-poverty programs for minorities, a ban on hate literature and racist propaganda and harassment, as well as multiculturalism. What more is there to support? We need the money for medicare, the homeless, education, the environment, legal aid and daycare subsidies for low-income families. Why should I pay for what people in the past did?
There isn't anyone lining up for compensation for the Crusades. I get the people who want compensation from France and Germany for the Holocaust, the desire for justice for Algerians in France, Chechens and Armenians. These have happened in the last 125 years. We are not going back five hundred years over British colonial policy.

African Americans should be grateful their ancestors were brought to America . Otherwise African-Americans wouldn't be living in the US without the opportunities we all have here. Many people from different countries would do anything to come here (many wouldn't, but many would ). Yes it is frustrating they had to go thru those hardships and put up with humiliation and all, but we should all focus on the present and move on.
There are many interesting and cool things in other countries, but there are many opportunities and benefits in the states that are not even available in other parts of the world.

I am NOT responsible for something that happened before I was born. This has been posted to many times before and no matter how it is worded it is stupid and a stupid question. If you want to give YOUR money away there are plenty of charities for African Americans that you can donate to. I am Irish and Cherokee, If your feeling guilty for things that happened before your time email me and I'll tell you where to send the check. Many races were victims at on point or another through out history. Why are they always forgotten about?

Why don't they make the africans in africa that sold their ancestors INTO slavery pay the monetary compensation. We didn't just go kidnap a bunch of people, you know. A lot of the africans sold their own people or other tribesmembers for money.

Excuse me????? My people came here on a ship from Italy in the mid 1930's. I don't owe anybody a damn thing. Blacks have more than the whites do today. How about this: my people were slaves during the Roman empire. I think Italy should compensate me. Stupid idea isn't it.

I would much prefer RESPECT because when the monies have depleted and you are still being treated in a disrespectful manner it does help and i believe that paying compensation now could lead to even more disrespect of our future generations.
So i would say, NO to compensation, YES to respect - treat me as you would like to be treated.

Hmmm. My Irish ancestors battled my Cherokee ancestors. My Scottish ancestors battled my English ancestors. My German ancestors battled all the above. I'll go write myself a check right now! It's wonderful being multi-ancestral!!!
BTW, you're heart's in the right place, but it just isn't practical.

Why should I pay for atrocities that my ancestors may or may not have heaped on blacks? I'm not responsible for what my ancestors did any more than my children are for anything I may have done.

Stop sucking ------ Every race, creed, and religion has suffered in history. How much do the Germans owe the Jews? What if you had to sell or give your house away to support this lost cause?? And, by the way, who sold them to American Masters? WE did not; they sold their own. Where did you come from? Maybe someone should owe you reparations...
