Please sir,....shut your computer off and back slowly away. The nice men will be there with your medication shortly. Be nice to them, and they may be nice to you.

It's a spectator sport much like the football you watch. As your screaming kill the guy and wishing to see carnage. All they are doing is making more sissy rules and crying for more revues.I don't suppose you ever watched a falcon dive into another bird or perhaps watched any bird squabble and fight over nesting sights.Unlike your football or baseball nature doesn't have refs and rules.Unlike most sporting events the ticket price on bird watching is cheap.Oh and there is no union which the birds can call upon to go on strike.Birds never complain they aren't making enough money or ask you to feel pity upon them because they have a drug problem. It's rather a shame you can't look past your T.V. for entertainment or to see something that is actually interesting to watch. As to being geeks well who cares really. If watching birds makes me a geek oh well so be it,I find that a lot better then a pot bellied arm chair warrior sitting on their butt because they weren't ever good enough to make it to a real team.It must truly such to have to live your life fantasy through watching someone who actually has talent.
As for the attraction to it there is no one set thing. But just like the arm chair warrior it is mostly for entertainment.Though I should point out if you catch the right kind of bird on film you can make upwards of 10,000 dollars.

This part of the site is not about birdwatching it is about keeping pet birds. And how are birdwatchers a drain on tax money? If you mean the government spending money to conserve birds then that should be done anyway, just as much as we should save the giant panda.
Anyway, aren't YOU a drain on tax money? I mean, someone had to pay for your education, any welfare money you've claimed, that sort of thing.

why do you care so much? Theyre not hurting you..and last time I checked, watching birds was free..so your tax dollars arent being touched. Im not a bird watcher. I dont care about them one way or another..But its just a freaking hobby. Im sure you have hobbies that other people would consider a waste of time too.

To eaches own. Think of this.....
You are bed ridden and you lay in bed day in and day out. Nobody comes to visit you. YOu have a window in your room. And a bird lands on the window sill and it sings and walks along the window sill and sings some more. Think about the peacefulness and the music birds give us. I love to hear the birds singing in the morning. It tells me, life is all around ...Come on man, get with the program..............

birds can be very relaxing. i love to hear the chirping. many older people who have stress problems or have high blood pressure find bird watching very relaxing. so don't knock it until you have tried it. it's the same thing with people who love to have fish tanks. DOE DOE.

Yeah, I don't see the attraction either.
They are brightly colored rats, basically. They poop all over and wake me up at dawn on weekends! The only good bird is a roasted or fried bird, served with mashed potatoes and gravy.
Studying them though, gives us valuable information about ecology, the environment, spread of diseases, and sometimes weather.
