Cut your carbs way down, but not out, replace liquids with water or fruit juice not from concentrate that has little to no sugar, and try natural ways to boost your metabolism like steady sleep schedules and spicy foods. But mostly, relax, stay busy, and eat well. If you aren't overindulging, and you're excercising regularly not sparatically, and eating regularly, (starvation just makes you gain weight I kid you not) then your body will pick the weight that it should be at naturally. If you don't keep something steady your body goes into crisis mode and holds onto extra weight for fear that it will need it.

bakfanlin has the right idea. I might add that it takes around 20-25 minutes for the 'satisfied' response from the belly to really kick in. Eat a normal portion of healthy food. If it only takes you 10 minutes to eat it, get up from the table and wait another 15-20 minutes. If you're still hungry, go back and have another small helping of broccoli or carrots or... Stay away from the fattening stuff on this round. This will help you avoid over eating. And as was mentioned by other responders, you MUST burn more calories than you take in if you want to lose weight and you must be committed to the process. Good luck to you.

there is huge misconceptin about diets... dont do them... change your lifestyle
try this:
First thing- don't change how much you eat (unless it is WAY WAY to much), start out by changing what you are eating. If it comes in a diet option, try it. If you are drinking 1% milk, try skim (or the next percentage down), avoid juice (liquid calories are way to easy to consume and hard to get rid of).
Second thing- Watch out for when you are eating these things, often times it is better to have smaller meals and snack throughout the day.
Third thing- NEVER EAT FAST FOOD. It is essentially a slow acting poison on your body and can lead to more health problems than you can think of.
Fourth thing- if you don't exercise, start out going for walks in the park or somehting, then bring it up to a light jog (once you are comfortable), then slowley bring up the intensity.
Fifth thing- Evaluate everything you put in your mouth, (i.e. avoiding higher fat meats like ribs, pork.. try fish instead or dear or chicken... then general meat rule is that the fewer legs it had as an animal, the better it is for you). Also, think about what goes into you ask yourself, "Should I be eating this?"
Sixth thing- You don't have to be doing all this 100% of the time, treat yourself, but recognize your priorities when it comes to it and don't let "treating yourself" get out of hand.

WATER! Nothing to drink but water. Absoluely NO sweets and walk 30 minutes everyday. Nothing worked for me either until I started doing this. I've lost 8 lbs in about 3 weeks. Whatever you do don't give up. I struggled with this for a long time and I am finally seeing some results and I feel MUCH better just with 8 lbs gone which is my motivation to keep going. Good Luck. :)

Have you gone to see a doctor?
Also, are you being honest about really giving a healthy diet and exercise a *real* try? I used to say that diet and exercise didn't work for me too, but then a took an honest look at myself and had to admit that I cheated on my diet and didn't really exercise the way I should.
When I was finally honest with myself, I gave it another try (diet and exercise) and really committed to a plan. It's worked for me!
If you honestly have tried diet and exercise and it didn't work, then definitely go see your doctor -- they can give you blood tests to tell if there is a medical problem that is hindering you from losing extra pounds.

Whatever you drink during the day, stop. Drink water instead.
As for exercise, you're probably just not doing enough. Start out walking around the block then when you build up some stamina try other exercises.

Atkin's has worked for me. It is healthy if you follow it correctly, take vitamains (without iron) and have most your carbs from leafy vegetables. Have lean proteins such as boneless skinless chicken breast and salmon with some asparagus or brocolli or green beans. Then SLOWLY add carbs back in. It works every time. Promise.

Its a simple process that worked for me...
1. Committment. Never give up. Never give up.
2. Shut your mouth. You don't need to eat all that crap. And its a lot of crap, isn't it? Eat well balanced meals. Watch portion sizes.
3. Get off your butt. You must exercise. Bottom line: you must burn more calories than you take in.
See my pic over there? I'm proud of that one... its my "I lost 80 pounds" grin.
