Talk with an attorney. But he should have no legal rights since he abandoned or gave up rights on your child.
On the other hand, if he contributed to child support, then he did not abandon his child. If that is the case, you will likely have to grant access unless he is deemed to be a danger or somehow negative towards the child.

I believe that under the law, unless he has relinquished his rights, whether he has paid child support or not and even if he has been out of the child's life, he still has the right to visit with his child.
It really doesn't have a thing to do with how you feel about it at all. Or what you think is right and what you think is wrong.
I am always amazed at how parents forget that visitation with the non custodial parent is about the RIGHTS OF THE CHILD.

His rights are only one issue. Do you think it would be a good thing for your child to have a relationship with his/her dad? Safety and emotional security are two important issues.
If it's good for your child let it be. I'm maybe a bit of a hippy, but I've never involved the courts in issues with my childs absent father - tried my best to keep it as natural and loving as possible. Yeah maybe the father and I/you don't love each other in that way - but we share your most important assets. Maybe you could try to work as a team...find out what dad's wants and needs are and try to meet in the middle in a friendly matter.
It's worked for me. In fact after not seeing my childs father for eight years him and I are now great friends and we are supportive of each others different parenting experiences. He and my new partner are also good buds!!
Good luck

Well the laws are different in many places, but I'm pretty sure that if you have full custody, he has to ask the courts permission to visit, or you have the right so say no. I have full custody of my daughter and the father use to ask to visit but, now I just say no, and he just stop coming around. Sometimes the fathers use their visitation rights just to try to get back into the mothers' lives, and why the sudden interest in your kid? He wants to try and see you again. Men are so predictable. you'll know if it's really about the kid if he focuses more on the kid and not you, but if he starts asking about you and trying to be extra nice than it's about getting back into your life.

If you're forced to give him visitation rights, make sure he pays the 6 years of owed child support to you. You need to get a lawyer. Laws vary from state to state on parental rights.

You are going to have to see an attorney and file for child support. He should have to pay rearrages. Then you will see if he really cares for your child or not..

depends on what province you live in. each province had different laws, normally no visits, cause he abandon his child, but he still has to pay support.
