Also taking into consideration a job not so high on the technical skill food chain because although I haven't taken my asvab yet, I'm assuming a score of 50-60 mostly coming from verbal and reading skills. So which jobs are 9-5 or allow for greater free time so I can get some schooling in while on active duty. Should I be looking more towards Administrative or do other divisions of the air force fit what i'm looking for?

P.S. I know the air force is for hard working individuals, so I'm not trying to use the military to find a job where I can be lazy or anything of that sort, i'm just exploring opportunities. Thanks

It's not so much about your job-but about the base that you're at and the shifts you'll be working. I was stationed at Kadena and it was great for people on dayshift to go to school...but people on night shifts couldn't as easily. Sometimes theyd miss class if something important was going on. Any job can work, but at the same time-any job might hamper you. It's that whole" Service before self" thing...and if you let people know that going in you want school before anything else...they'll screw you over and not give you any. You have to finish your initial trianing before they allow school too...like, maybe a year into your first duty station you could start.

Good luck!

I am prior Air Force and I was a cook. Even doing this job, there would have been no time for me to do both. When in the service, your job will come first.

Also, my ex-husband is still in and he said that all careers have to been deployable and do the same job as someone in the Security Forces career field.

If you want free time to go to school and socialize, then the service is not for you. You have to live for them.

I suggest take the asvab firstbefore you go planning a future. adminstration is what your looking for personal or finance. They keep regular hours more or less.

Anything that works in admin. They work 7:30-4:30 and have weekends and holidays off (and down days, given day's off).

Most jobs in the medical field have easy schedules too.
