The heat acts in a simiar way and seems to have started around the the time I had to add stop leak to the radiator. Shortly befor all of this I changed the thermostat after the original failed , causing it to overheat and of course warped a cylinder head. I replaced all that. On top of that, the truck has started burning a lot oil since replacing the head. Any ideas?

Do you mean that it blows warm air when you are stopped or that it blows no air when stopped ? If it blows no air then you should check the fuse or relay to the fan, (When moving the pressure of the air on the front forces the air through to the inside.)

You may have trash in your radiator. Try flushing it out.
