It depends on your computer specifications. If you have about 1.5 Ghz processor speed, 512 MB ram, and at least 128 MB graphics card, your laptop will run fine. I currently use steam on WinXP and I can tell you that before I bought the 512 MB ram, steam took a long time loading maps and stuff. But now it seems much faster.

Also if you can, disable extraneous special effects on XP like fading menus. This will make your computer much more faster.

And no, your laptop will not blow up.

It's hard to say but it won't blow it up but it might freeze alot and be very annoying. Do you have a PC? Those are cheaper than laptops so you could play it or install it with that and see what happens. But 98 is so old it's almost 10 years old, and there are better programs, harddrives and processors that can handle the stress of installations and runnings like that. Maybe you should think of investing in a new laptop with vista or at least a P4. Sorry I couldn't offer better.

no your computer will not blow up. nothing bad will happen. however, it is an older machine and will run windows XP slower that 98. plus the video card my not be good inough for the game. if your looking to play games a desktop is usually better but iff you need some thing thats potable and if you have the money buy a new laptop. your living in the stone age man.

You never said how old your laptop is and what components you have installed. Need this info to determine if Windows XP will install without any problems. Need info like CPU type and speed, how much RAM, size of HDD, graphics capability, etc.

Unless you have a lot of free memory, I wouldn't try. The XP program itself takes a lot of memory and I don't know if you can remove it if you did. You may contact Microsoft and ask that? They are usually helpful. good luck.
