Ok, but first what IS hell?
Its actually not a place but a state a soul can have after death that is completely separate form God. Its said that anyone who goes to hell has tried to distance himself from God so much, untill he is totally ripped away from Him. Its tormenting not because of devils poking you but because its so unnatural.
And heaven, is the opposite, its a state of complete unity with the Creator.
Nobody knows if there are actually people in hell. The church hopes that there arent any.
Personally I think there are fiewer than people think because of what a nunn called St. Faustina saw. She was in close contact with the dying and prayed for them a lot. From her visions a devotion started, helped by John Paul II, that tried to make known God's infinite mercy to the modern world. Jesus told her that his mercy is so great that no living thing has ever been able to comprehend it.
And also she described the conversion of "hardened sinners" in whom from the outside apparently everything was lost, but inside, in the last moment, they "turned themselves completely to God's mercy". Jesus instructed her to pray for the dying often because they are in most need of trust, and have it the least.
So overall, we see that God reaches out, not only for his beleivers but, He said, especially for poor sinners.

I believe that Hell does exist. Although I am unaware of any orthodox Christian denomination which asserts that God won't send anyone to Hell, it is historically not completely unorthodox to believe that God seeks to save individuals even after their temporal bodies have expired. This idea is known as "divine persistence." Evidently C.S. Lewis believed this way, and it is possible to back it up Scripturally (see John 5:25, 1 Peter 3:9, and Eph. 4:7-9). I don't necessarily hold to this perspective, but ultimately I hope for the salvation of all, be it through accepting Christ here, or through God's grace in some other way. No matter what the case is, God will be glorified.

We believe in Paradise and Hell. Paradise is the abode of enjoyment which God, the Exalted, prepared for the righteous. The blessing they enjoy there, no eye has ever seen, no ear has ever heard of, and no human being has ever imagined: "No soul knows what comfort is kept hidden for them, as a reward for that which they used to do." (32:17) Hell is the abode of punishment which God has prepared for the unbelievers and the evildoers. The torture and horror in it cannot be imagined
without it, God would not be the Just and Wise and merciful God He is. God created men and made them responsible for their actions; some behaved well but others did not. If there is no future life in which the virtuous are rewarded and the vicious are punished, there would be no justice and the creation of men in that way and the sending of Prophets to them would be to no purpose at all. But this kind of behaviour is not expected of a man known to be rational and just, let alone the Perfect Creator.

Two thoughts come to mind . . .
( 1 ) . . . Some say that what we are living now (as humans on Earth ) is (the) hell as there is temptation, hurt, sadness, concerns, etc. Being one with (God) the One is Pure joy, brilliant Light, Love...Pureness. Not the wonderfulness, yet still grayness, that is experienced by living our soul journeys while here in Earth. Souls living a human experience. Not a "curse"...simply a soul experience being lived.
.
(2) . . . I also am of the thought that (God) the One would not / does not send any to " hell ". I'm a mother of three...When my kids 'misbehave' I am more focused on them learning what was done ' wrong ' and guiding them to awareness. Sometimes that ' guiding ' means discipline in the form of taking away privileges (t.v., i-pod, computer, special outing or item they may have wanted, etc.)...Yet, to desire to harm them or put them through " hell " ? ! ! . . . No. I want to guide them to the 'correct ' side...not severely punish them or put them through ' hell '. It saddens parents to see their children hurting. I would think it would sadden (God) the One to see us in ' hell '. I don't believe ' hell ' exists. I feel that not feeling the united Love of the One is being in ' hell '. And that is a ' hell ' that a person would put their own self's in...not that (God) the One put us in to.
A side note . . . My kids (ages 14, 17 and 20) might disagree and express that I have or do put them through ' hell ' . . . But, that's what many teens say...isn't it ? I'm being the best mother I can be to them...and love them huge.

Whatever denomination that is obviously didn't read the whole Bible. It clearly states that hell is really and if you do not accept Jesus into your heart before you die you WILL go there for eternity. Revelation 20:15 "And anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life was thrown into the lake of fire." (aka HELL)

If you believe what the Bible says, yes. In fact, surprisingly, no one spoke more about the subject of hell than Jesus. Hell was created by God, but not for man. It was created for the devil and his angels. The good news is the we don't have to end up there. If we accept Jesus as our Personal Lord and Savior, we can liver forever in etenity with Him.

What's amazing is that with no clout over any religion, people would worship a deity that sends people to eternal suffering for chosing the wrong religion.

Yes. He may be loving but people alway forget the Just God. He sent the most gifted and blessed of his angels there when they rebelled. That is what sin is, rebellion against God, and it offends him.
