I used to have the same problem and my daughter did too. What I used to do is, chew up a peice of bread and when it is gooshy, stick the pill in the middle and swallow the bread. Sounds kind of gross, but it works!!

I used to have the exact same problem. If you really can't do it, crush the pill between two spoons, then mix the crushed pill with some honey or chocolate syrup so it's not as bitter. If the pills are capsules, they should be pretty easy to pull apart and then let the powder out. Just make sure you check with your doctor or pharmacist before doing this, if you do this with a time-release capsule (a pill that has a lot of medicine and releases it slowly) you could release ALL the medication at once and overdose, so check!!
If you still want to try to swallow, this is how I learned: first I took a big drink of water to lubricate my throat. Then I took a small sip of water and kept it in my mouth, put the pill in, tipped my head back slightly (so my throat was straight), then swallowed while drinking from the glass again. I found that round pills worked better than long ones, and coated pills worked better than uncoated (the uncoated ones start to dissolve in your mouth if it takes you too long and tastes gross!).
Hope this helps!!

Well as embarassing as it is to admit this, I am 40yrs old and until last year I could not swallow pills to save my life. It is a mind game and trust me, I tried everything. My mind would tell me that there was a pill in my mouth and no matter how hard I tried I could not swallow pills. I could feel them in my mouth and then my tongue would take the pill to the roof of my mouth where it would stay!!!! One day last year I was drinking a glass of tomato juice (cold) and needed to swallow a pill so I reluctantly put the pill in my mouth and took a swig of tomato juice and down the pill went. I was thrilled. What had happened was that the juice was thick enough that I did not feel the pill in my mouth and therefore my brain did not think there was a pill and it went right down. I know this sounds really silly or maybe even stupid, but it works. You should at least try it....what have you got to lose? Good luck.

Try to gulp water just keep trying. i had the same problems till last year when i started gulping instead of sipping. it also helps if suck lollipops/ pops or sore throught drops before swalloing pills. u could also put pill in banana and try taking big bites but i doesn't really work. i use to also smash it into powder and mix it with apple sauce. Hope these tips help. I know how hard it is i still have some truoble but i don't give up.good luck on surgery

put the pill and water into your mouth. open your throat up and move the pill around until you cant feel it in your mouth. then just swallow as if its just water. If you cant do that break the pill into smaller pieces or if all else fails just chew it. It will taste bitter so have a cup of juice or something.
just wondering but if this is for (minor) dental surgery dont they use needles ?

I used to have the same problem, it takes some getting used to.
but to help it go down, just tilt your head back and relax when you swallow

WHEN THE DENTIST PRESCRIBES A PAIN KILLER JUST ASK HIM TO MAKE IN LIQUID FORM. TELL HIM THAT YOU JUST CAN'T SWALLOW PILLS. MANY ANALGESICS ARE AVAILABLE IN LIQUID FORM.
