If you do not have a dog or cat maybe your parents could get you one for a roommate.

When my 2 daughters got their own rooms for the first time they were about 11yrs & 13 yrs old. The 11 yr old was scared too. She had to sleep with her light on & her TV on for awhile. It took her a few months to get comfortable by herself. Thats pretty normal. Why don't you want to tell your parents? Maybe they could help you. You could try to read a book that is happy, not scary, when you go to bed, that might help you to relax & get tired. Or try writing in a journal at bedtime. You will get use to it soon. It takes a little while, after all for 12 years you shared a room with your sister, you've never been by yourself. It is so new, give it some time, it will get easier. My daughter loves having her own room now. She can fix things any way she wants to & nobody says anything about when she leaves stuff out, or where she can do stuff, it's all her choice. Good Luck!!!

Don't be scared, your room is your blank canvas to decorate as you choose. Make things more homie and spend some more time in there if need be. Make it comfortable to be there. Your room is your safe-haven. The place where you can have as many ideas, dreams, and secrets as you want. Give it time, if you just got it, then having your own room is a change, also meaning your parents think you deserve it. Just start changing you perseption and opinion of your room. That will help. Best of luck, peace.

Hate to say it but you have to get used to this. There will not always be someone around to sleep in your room w/you. Just keep doing it and I promise it will eventually pass. I was scared when I didn't know anyone at college but I got used to the surroundings and was fine. Try playing some music low to help you relax. Enjoy your room. Most kids would love to have their own room to themselves.

My god you are ready to become an adult that has psychological needs and a special doctor. Oh well, be careful some people let their doctors control their lives and they take brain pills and can never work again. Hmmm, there are TV shows to fix up a room but you really need your siblings in with you. Get a TV camera to see them all the time in their rooms and they see you . Or cut a window in the wall.

I know how you feel; I don't like sleeping alone in my apartment (when my boyfriend is working the late shift), I'm actually a bit afraid of the dark... and I'm 31! 2 things really help me:
1. my big dog Stuart. He comes and sleeps on the bed with me, and I feel instantly invincible. If you have a dog, let him/her sleep in your room with you.
2.falling asleep with the TV on (a radio will do, too). The sound of people blabbering away in the background will put you to sleep fast!
Good luck, and don't worry- everything will be alright!

Have you tried a nightlight, or perhaps some soothing music? That might help you feel more comfortable. Don't be embarrassed to bring a stuffed animal or a pet to bed with you, lots of people do it.
Have you thought of what you are afraid of? Perhaps you can make yourself feel more secure if you ask your parents about the security system (locks, alarms) that the home uses, and talk about a fire safety and escape plan. Make sure you have a smoke detecter and a flashlight.
And.....close the closet door! My closet used to really creep me out!

sweetie its normal to feel that way. I kicked and screamed when my parents threw me out of their room when I was a kid. just give it a little more time and you will get used to the privacy and learn to love it. have you tried playing the radio just loud enough so you can hear it. that can help sometimes. If you really just can't deal with it then maybe it would be best to talk to your parents. I'm a mom and if my daughter was feeling this way I would definitely want her to tell me.

Im 13. I have slept with my TV on since I was 10 mths old and I cant sleep w/out it. Im scared of the dark. My chihuahua, kitty, and Great Dane sleep with me too. I hate the dark. My advice is too sleep with your TV on all night (in case you wake up in the middle of the night) and sleep with a pet.

It might help if you sleep with a Night Light or Lamp turned on.
Also, you might calm yourself by reading or watching TV.
But the best way to remove all fear is to say your prayers
knowing that Angels will watch over you.
