Colorado’s Blue Law- which restricts the sale of alcohol and automobiles on Sunday.

Most of the state’s major liquor stores are happy just the way things are. Many liquor stores don’t want to open on Sunday because owners would need to scramble to find additional staff, which increases overhead. And in the end, owners say opening on Sunday wouldn’t dramatically boost their sales.

What the issue comes down to is that liquor stores enjoy their Sundays off

I know, I live in the Springs. Ironically, the military liquor stores are open on Sundays. I'm from NJ where the liquor laws are more relaxed.
Hey, at least Colorado doesn't have Wet and Dry counties like in Tennesse and other southern states.
I guess the liquor stores are closed on Sundays so people will get out and patronize the bars, and drink and drive!

Its the opposite, the lawmakers don't want peopel buying alcohol on Sunday for "religious reasons".

I'd love to meet a deeply religious liquor store owner someday though...

Oh it's not just us coloradans!! You can't buy liquor in Georgia on sunday's- at least we can buy 3/2 at the grocery stores on sundays can't even do that in GA. I personally think the reason is so that you have to go to the bar if you want booze on sunday- revenue from those sunday DUI's is probably what keeps the schools and rec centers open!!

Goes back to the "blue laws". On Sunday way back when nothing was open, except maybe an occasional grocery store and the only thing that could be bought on Sunday was groceries.

They are gently referred to as "blue laws", but are a fact of life in the US where the separation of church and state is way too thin.

Apparently some religious people think other religious people can't keep themselves from tipping back a few before attending church on Sunday morning. Additionally- they are too stupid to buy their booze on Saturday.

haha, that is actually a pretty good question! I guess they just want to see to it that at least once a week, NO ONE can buy alcohol, whether of their religion or not, which is really silly. YOu can of course be religious and still drink alcohol responsibly, like Jewish people do.
