That's not a terrible number but it's not the greatest either. That efc number means that you should be able to provide $1,126 of your tuition.

It is not a real bad number because it is still low. It just means that you will qualify for less in Pell Grants than you did last year. You can still look for scholarships from outside sources. I will list some places that can help.
First, the college's financial aid office and website has a list of private scholarships offered from outside organizations and companies. Sometimes a college major's website will list scholarships, too.
Second, the public library has a book listing scholarships with some not even listed on the web.
Finally, I recommend joining several free membership scholarship search websites. There are scholarships for a variety of things including ethnicity, clubs, hobbies, and even wearing duct tape to the high school prom. Most are updated on a regular basis. Most offer a customized search based on information entered onto a form on the website.
Good luck!

My efc (expected family contribution) is 17320. All that means is that your family(if you are a dependent student), or you (if you are an independent student), should be able to contribute at least $1,126 to your education. I highly believe that you are still in the running for student grants! If you do not qualify for grant, you will probably get the max in student loans, which will increase on July 1, 2007.

this mean that this is the amount you pay out of pocket minus what financial aid has already given. it could be a good thing depending on the school you are attend.
